Hello, I'm having an issue on my new computer, I can't run Fortnite. Every other games I've tried work well. When trying to launch Fortnite, Easy anti cheats complete its loading and the game loads but it almost instantly shut down with a message like "We're really sorry fortnite has crashed, we're working toward fixing it".
My computer : Acer Predator Helios neo 18 AI
- Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 275HX (2.70 GHz)
- 32,0 Go RAM
- RTX 5070
I tried everything from their support website and the different solutions I found on this website, I've tried clean update all my drivers to no success. I need help ! I attached the log from fortnite with an error that seems linked to the INTEL NPU or graphic card. I had no idea my CPU came with an integrated GPU.
Additional note. I notice that Windows triggers the "device plugged in" sound whenever I launch the game and as soon as it crashes, it plays the "plugged out sound" and the computer freeze for a second

I fixed it ! The problem is caused by the latest update of the NPU driver. I reverted back to the original one (32.0.100.3717) and It works fine now !
When would you recommend me to update it again ? I'll be afraid now...

Hi LilianDsign,
Thank you for contacting Intel Technical Support regarding the Fortnite crash issue you're experiencing with your new Acer Predator Helios Neo 18 AI laptop. I understand how concerning it must be when one specific game crashes while others work fine, especially with the unusual "device plugged/unplugged" sounds and system freezing.
Since you have an Acer system, I want to mention that OEM manufacturers like Acer often provide customized drivers specifically optimized for their hardware configurations. I recommend checking with Acer support first, as they may have specific drivers or solutions for your Predator Helios Neo 18 AI model.
However, I'm happy to assist you with troubleshooting. To better help you, I need some additional information:
System Information:
- Please run Intel System Support Utility (SSU) and provide the report: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html
- If you're not comfortable with SSU, please provide your current Intel graphics driver version
Game-Specific Questions:
- What GPU is Fortnite using when it launches (Intel integrated or RTX 5070)?
- What troubleshooting steps have you already tried from Epic Games support?
- Have you tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for a clean graphics driver installation?
- When did this issue first occur - immediately after getting the laptop or after some use?
- Do any other games show similar behavior with the "device plugged/unplugged" sounds?
You can download the latest Intel graphics driver here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-graphics-windows.html
The device connection sounds suggest there may be a hardware detection issue when the game tries to access certain components.

Hello Dean,
Thank you very much for your response.
Unfortunately, the Acer support website is proposing me to download an older version of the intel Arc driver, which is labelled as provided by Intel and Not Acer : Assistance produit - PHN18-72 | Acer France
I ran the SSU and attached the file to this response.
1. Fortnite is using my Nvidia card apparently but I contacted intel because in the log, the issue seems to be with the NPU.
2. I tried every solution from this list : Comment régler les erreurs et les problèmes de plantage et de performances de Fortnite sur PC ? - Assistance par Fortnite Battle Royale (sorry the website is automatically in french)
3. I did not tried any DDU since I can only find third party software, I'm afraid it could damage my computer.
4. I forgot to mention that I juts bought this laptop and never launched Fortnite before on it.
5. There's another that does that : Nightingale, which is another Unreal Engine 5 game using all their fancy technologies. However, it does not crash...
I will contact Acer for additional help
Best regards,
Lilian

Hello sorry for the very late responses,
You just have to go to the device manger, Select the Neural processor in the list, the intel IA boost.
From there go the the pilote tab and click on update > update locally > select from the list of installed pilotes
then you can select the first from the list which should still work.
plz note my windows is in french so, the terms are approximative.

Hi LilianDsign,
Thank you for the update regarding your resolved issue with the NPU driver version 32.0.100.3717. I'm glad to hear that the driver installation was successful and your issue has been resolved. However, I wanted to take a moment to educate you about an important distinction regarding the driver you installed, as I noticed this is an OEM version driver.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) drivers are customized by your system manufacturer like Dell, HP, or Lenovo specifically for your hardware configuration. These drivers include manufacturer-specific optimizations and are tested for compatibility with your specific model, often containing additional features not found in standard drivers.
Generic Intel drivers, on the other hand, are standard drivers developed by Intel for broad compatibility across multiple systems. They provide baseline functionality without manufacturer-specific customizations and are updated more frequently by Intel directly.
Since you installed OEM driver version 32.0.100.3717, please be aware that this driver was specifically designed for certain OEM systems. While it resolved your current issue, using OEM drivers on non-matching systems may potentially cause compatibility issues or unexpected behavior in the future.
For optimal performance and compatibility, I recommend using drivers that are specifically designed for your system. If you have an OEM system, it's best to use drivers from your manufacturer's support website. If you have a custom-built system, generic Intel drivers are typically the appropriate choice.
If you experience any issues in the future, please don't hesitate to contact us for guidance on the most appropriate driver for your specific system configuration.
Best regards,
Dean R.

Hi LilianDsign,
You're very welcome, I'm glad the explanation was helpful, and it's great to hear that you switched back to your originally installed driver version 32.0.100.3717. Since that was the driver that came with your system, you should indeed have optimal compatibility and performance.
Do you have any other questions or concerns regarding your NPU drivers or system performance that I can help you with?
Best regards,

A month later after this thread was closed, specifically December 19, 2025 Intel released new version of NPU Driver - Windows* 32.0.100.4514 for Intel® Core™ Ultra processors. And this driver causes same issues as previous 32.0.100.4404.
Fortnite crashes with same error as in this thread original post. Last event in Fortnite log: Selecting NPU adapter: Intel(R) AI Boost.
Reverting NPU Driver back to 32.0.100.3717 resolves issue.
Box specs:
- Not an OEM machine. Desktop box built by our own
- MB: ASUS PRIME H810M-A
- CPU: Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 225F
- GPU: Intel® Arc™ B580

After a Windows Update on my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro the NPU driver got updated to 32.0.100.4404 and Fortnite now crashes immediately upon launch unless I disable the Intel AI Boost device.
I've lost the whole weekend trying to fix this so I have a couple of questions:
1. has this problem been fixed by Intel in the latest Intel NPU driver, if so which version?
2. why is Windows Update pushing out updates for old buggy drivers like the Intel Corporation Driver Update (32.0.100.4404). Can this be stopped somehow?
Thank you!
