Dear Community,

I have a laptop  Dell Precision 5570 equipped with Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900H, 2500 Mhz, 14 Core(s), 20 Logical Processor(s), Nvidia RTX A2000 8Gb and 64Gb DDR5, 4800Mhz

Used to run with 4 Dell Monitors P2319H (23") through a Dell Dock Station WD19S. External displays were set up at the 1920x1080 on extend desktop  while the main display on the laptop at 3840x2440.

I have just replaced My Dell Monitor by HP Serie 5 Pro 527 (27") as I wanted bigger Display. Now, I cannot display my 3 external monitors at 1920x1080. I have one Monitor with a resolution max up at 1600x900.

I have two screen pugged into Display port and One into HDMI port. I have also tried to switch HDMI with USB-C port. Not better result

It the size of the monitor has a influence on the processor capability ? Is it some of incompatibility between Dell and HP ? should I go with a dock station 3 display ports ?

Thanks Intel Community

Hello SebastienUS,

Thank you for sharing your setup details in the Intel Communities. Based on the information you've provided, here are some considerations and possible solutions:

1) The size of the monitor itself doesn't directly affect the processor's capability to handle multiple displays. However, higher resolution displays require more graphical processing power. Your laptop's Intel Core i9-12900H and Nvidia RTX A2000 should be capable of handling multiple monitors at 1920x1080 resolution.

Check here: Multiple display support matrix

2) There shouldn't be inherent compatibility issues between Dell and HP monitors. However, differences in monitor specifications, such as supported resolutions and refresh rates, could affect display settings.

3) The Dell Dock Station WD19S should support multiple monitors, but it's important to ensure that it can handle the combined bandwidth required for your setup. If you're experiencing resolution limitations, it might be worth considering a docking station with more display ports or higher bandwidth capabilities. Kindly confirm limitation concerns with the docking stations manufacturer.

Check here: Features & Technical Specifications DELL DOCK – WD19S 180W (page 4)

4) Additional steps:

  • Ensure that the display settings in your operating system are correctly configured for each monitor. Sometimes, settings can revert to lower resolutions.
  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can cause display issues.
  • Try different combinations of connections (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C) to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, certain ports may have bandwidth limitations.
  • Verify the specifications of your docking station to ensure it supports the desired resolutions for all connected monitors.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to reach out to Dell or HP support for additional assistance, as they could offer specific insights into compatibility or configuration settings.

I hope this information is helpful.

Best regards

Monitor size doesn’t affect processor capability, but your Dell WD19S dock may not support full 1080p resolution on all outputs simultaneously for 3x 27" monitors. Upgrade to a dock with higher DisplayPort bandwidth (e.g., WD22TB4 or Thunderbolt dock) for proper multi-display support. 🙂
