My laptop is a HP Notebook with Intel i3 5500 CPU clocked at 2.0 GHz, with intel 5500 HD graphics card. I am unable to find a suitable graphics driver for ths GPU.

The "Operating System is not supported" message is used as a catch-all for any error occurring during the installation process. What you need to do is uninstall any existing Intel HD Graphics driver (followed immediately by a reboot) and continue this process until only the Microsoft Basic driver is reported as in use. Then install this 'new' driver package.
