ASUS X556UA: Recent Intel HD 620 Driver Crashes

Hello,

I have a ASUS X556UA laptop that has the Intel HD 620 integrated graphics. On some earlier Windows Update or driver update (performed by the Intel Driver & Support Assistant) the laptop now experiences the screen going black with some noise at the top and being unresponsive leading to it having to be hard restarted by holding the power button down. This seems to be intermittent, could happen a few minutes after start up or 10s of minutes after start up but it will eventually happen without fail.

I'm not sure what to do at this point, going back to slightly older versions of the driver lead to the same problem. I'm starting to think maybe the hardware is broken, how would I go about ascertaining whether that is the case? Are there any logs or dumps I should look at that would indicate what is causing the screen to go black and distorited?

Thanks in advance for your insight.
