After updating to 24H2 and installing latest drivers, issues with persistence of monitor enumeration

3 days ago I updated windows to 24H2 and in the process also updated Arc drivers to latest.

After that I have been having major issues with my monitors not maintaining their enumeration consistency.

I have had this problem in the past but I believe it was due to some bad drivers or weird power config settings. In any case it was years ago and I haven't had them until I upgraded 3 days ago.

This is the problem:

When my monitors go to sleep/standby and then I resume they screw up everything associated to them which includes audio settings.

In OBS I set the global audio device to the monitor device. OBS then loses the device and I have to go in settings every time and reconfigure it(which I did not have to do before except a long time ago).

I know the enumeration is changing because I have a monitor util that lets me blank a screen for a specific monitor using an integer into the enumeration. It has nothing to do with the problem as it simply enumerates the devices and makes a blank window on the monitor I specify so don't go down the road that it's that app causing the problems.  It happens if I use the app or not. When I run it using blank 1 it will blank monitor 1. But when I have this issue I'm talking about the 1 will blank different monitors. because the enumeration is changing.

It's as if when the monitor powers down intel or windows acts like it's been completely removed from the system and then reinstalls it but this causes the enumerations to change. Because the audio I'm using is "hdmi audio" (intel HD audio driver for display driver) it goes kaput with the monitor.

I believe it is a monitor and intel problem rather than the windows update or audio problem.

I've tried various "solutions" online and nothing has helped. It seems to be a regression in the latest drivers or I fixed it latest time and forgot what I did.

Again, these problems did not happen until 3 days ago and since I updated both the graphics card and windows I don't know which one it is(not that I had a choice as windows updated the graphics along with the 24H2).

I know I can install older drivers and test but it isn't that simple and technically it shouldn't be a problem at all.  Testing is not so simple because I have to either wait for everything to shut down or force standby and such and these takes about 30s or longer(+ the several minutes resume and check everything) so I'm not going to waste a few hour repeating the same process over and over to try something that likely won't fix anything.  I'd rather have something that helps me figure out what is actually causing the problem and isolate it down to something that is comprehensible and which can be permanently solved.

Device settings for DISPLAY\PHLC247\7&fd09419&4&UID20545 were not migrated from previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match.

Last Device Instance ID: DISPLAY\Default_Monitor\1&1b9e8417&0&UID256
Class GUID: {4d36e96e-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Location Path:
Migration Rank: 0xF000FFFF0000F120
Present: false
Status: 0xC0000719

This is happening for each monitor in the device Manager/Monitors. I've noticed there is a lot of items in

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDriver\... and someone said deleting them all helped. I'm going to try it.

After deleting those registry keys I haven't had any problems so it seems to be the solution. After deleting and rebooting only 1 sub key showed up in each of the corresponding keys rather than the 20 or so that existed. It seems to have had no adverse issues except that I had to reconfigure the positions of the monitors in display settings. I also disabled intel graphics software from loading(as it was crashing here and there according to the event log). I never use it so.

Hello _JS_,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

To investigate effectively, please share the information below.

1. Which specific driver versions did you install?

2. Does running in Safe Mode show different behavior?

3. Are you using any docking stations, display adapters, or any of the same kind?

4. How many monitors and what connection types? (DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C, etc.)

5. Does Device Manager show any warning/error icons for display adapters?

Additionally, to have a better understanding of your system configuration and components please generate System Support Utility (SSU) report. Please follow instructions here and send the report - How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*

I look forward to your response.

Best regards
