Arc B580 start problem

Hi,

I have a new Asrock Arc B580 Challenger and I need Help.

Under Windows 10 (22H2) there are no Problems. The Gfx-board works great so far. 🙂

But there is a Problem starting the PC:

  • coldboot from power-off works flawlessly. Win 10 starts with ReBar enabled
  • 1st warmboot (reset from Win 10 or reset-button or saving uefi settings) is also ok
  • 2nd, 3rd, 4th... warmboot gives an error-beep from the mainboard and Win 10 or UEFI starts without signal at the monitor and the CSM gets enabled! 🙄

The next coldboot from power-off the B580 gets reactivated, I can disable CSM in UEFI and boot Win 10 (ReBar enabled).

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H V2 (Bios F57g)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500

RAM: 16GB DDR4-3200 Patriot C16 Series

OS: Windows 10 (22H2)

Gfx-Driver: 32.0.101.6881

I tried resetting UEFI-settings, disconnecting all drives and usb hardware, connected a monitor  at the HDMI-Port instead of DP. No change.

Hello micky4000,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

For me to address this properly, please share the information below.

1. Was this working fine before?

2. Did you make recent changes to the system?

3. What is the pattern of the beep code?

4. Have you tried using another graphics card to isolate the issue?

I look forward to your response.

Best regards

Hi Jed G.,

thanks for respond.

1.

With the old gfxboard (Radeon HD7850) the system was working fine and reboots were no problem.

2.

Only removed HD7850 (incl. deinstalled drivers via DDU) and installed the B580 with most recent Win 10 drivers. Also enabled ReBar/Above 4G in UEFI and diabled CSM.

3.

1 long, 2 short beeps

4.

Switching back to HD7850 again no problems with reboots/warmboots, but caused by the age of the HD7850 I had to enable CSM.

I have no other gfxboards for testing.

Thank you for the detailed description and for outlining your system configuration and troubleshooting steps. This is incredibly helpful for narrowing down the root cause. It appears the Arc B580 functions normally on cold boot and initial warm boot, but subsequent warm reboots trigger a BIOS error (1 long, 2 short beeps) and force CSM (Compatibility Support Module) to re-enable, disrupting the ReBAR configuration and GPU initialization. This pattern suggests a potential compatibility or hand-off issue between the motherboard’s UEFI firmware and the Arc B580 during POST in warm reboot scenarios. Your successful cold boot behavior and full functionality under Windows 10 further reinforce this.

A few follow-up steps and clarifications may help us move forward:

  1. Have you attempted a CMOS reset after enabling ReBAR and disabling CSM, then re-saving all settings? Some motherboards may not persist ReBAR cleanly across soft restarts unless the configuration is freshly reapplied.
  2. Have you tried toggling Fast Boot (both Windows and UEFI versions) to see if that changes the behavior on reboot?
  3. Do you see any VGA error LED on the motherboard during the failed warm boot? This could help indicate if POST is hanging on GPU initialization.

Hi M.

1.

Yes. Saved after coldboot and again after warmboot. Also tried an UEFI downgrade. So UEFI setting were set and saved multiple times during my tests. No change.

2.

Yes. Same behavior. Just faster boot without display after 2nd reboot. 😉

3.

There's no VGA error LED on the motherboard. If I ask google then "1 long, 2 short beeps" indicates problem with the graphic card.

Hello micky4000,

I appreciate this additional information. To further troubleshoot the issue, is it possible for you to try another motherboard or try the graphics card on another system?

Hello Jed G.,

No, I don't have any other motherboard or graphics card to test (only the HD7850).

But I've decided to stop testing, return the B580 and switch back to the HD7850.‌

Thanks for your help anyway.
