Arc Pro A40 fan issue

I just purchased a brand new Arc Pro A40. The fan is always running between 3000 and 3500 rpm and is quite noisy.

I installed the latest drivers for the Arc Pro A40. There is no option to change the fan speed (or any other performance settings) in the "Intel Graphics Software", and that's the only tool installed by the installer.

How can I change any perofrmance settings or the fan speeds?

Hi WS99,

Thank you for posting in our Community. I see that fan noise can be distracting, especially when the GPU is idle, and I appreciate you checking the drivers and software settings already. To help me guide you effectively, could you kindly clarify a few points?

  • Is the fan running at 3000–3500 RPM even when the system is idle, or only under load?
  • What are the GPU temperatures when the fan is running at that speed?
  • Are there any applications running in the background that might be causing the GPU to remain active?
  • Can you confirm the exact driver version installed?
  • Have you noticed similar fan behavior with other GPUs in the same system?

Additionally, I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue

Have a nice day!

Hi,

thank you for the quick reply, here is the required information.

  1. Fans are running that high with no load, 2-3% CPU utilization
  2. GPU temps are 66-67 degrees Celsius
  3. no
  4. 32.0.101.6979
  5. No, I had a RX570 in the system before, with normal temps and fan speeds

Logs will be attached shortly.

best regards,

Wolfgang

Hello WS99,

Thank you for your patience while I reviewed your system. To help us narrow down the issue, could you please confirm if the GPU has been overclocked?

Upon reviewing your system using SSU, I noticed that both your BIOS and GPU drivers are outdated, which could also contribute to the behavior you’re experiencing. To address this, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Update the BIOS to version 3.90: ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITXax BIOS

  2. Update the Intel Arc GPU driver to version 32.0.101.8331: Intel Arc Graphics Windows Driver

After updating, you may also try adjusting the performance and fan settings under the Tuning tab in Intel Graphics Software (IGS), which can help optimize stability and performance.

Please let me know once these updates are applied or if you encounter any issues during the process. This will help us determine the next best steps.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Best regards

Hi,

thank you for your assistance. The GPU hasn't been overclocked (I can't change any settings anyway...).

I upgraded the BIOS and tried installing the driver (after removing the previous version and rebooting) you linked, but it won't install, see attached error log.

best regards,

Wolfgang

I managed to install the newest driver by using the PRO version from https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/741626/intel-arc-pro-graphics-windows.html

It would have been great if I had been given the correct link before 😞

But still there's no option to change the fan speed?

It is an arc problem. Fan control alogrorithm is clearly not properly developed.
Unstable speed,  Aggressive and Noisy Fan Start/Stop Cycling ( default settings), sudden increase in speed without no load.
multiple users have issues with intel arc's fan control.
