BIOS update caused graphics driver to fail

I know that this issue might be OEM one but I still want to complain. The latest BIOS update for my Dell Inspiron 7567 laptop with i7 microcode updates cased the graphics driver to stop working after reboot. How can that be??

Are you complaining to Dell also? If not, you should.

Yes, of course. BTW. This is what this BIOS update is supposed to fix:

- Updated Intel ME Firmware to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00118(CVE-2018-3627)

- Updated CPU microcode to address security advisory Intel Security Advisory INTEL-SA-00115 (CVE-2018-3639 & CVE-2018-3640)

BTW Ubuntu 18.04 is not affected.

BTW. I installed this driver manually: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27847/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10?product=80939 Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10

and this one too: https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/134857 Drivers | GeForce

This fixed my driver issues.

This is another prime example why we need Intel to start providing generic drivers that can be easily installed on OEM devices as their "official" drivers are old and suck.

The "fix" above worked for a while then I wasn't able to proceed after the login screen - the display would turn dark gray. Then I read that starting the laptop on battery power will let me login. Well that workaround worked. At least for now.
