Black Screen with no video on linux

Hello,

Today I tried installing Fedora 44 KDE on a new drive, but for some reason I don't get any video output. I can reach the boot menu just fine, but none of the boot options work, including "Try Fedora", "Test This Media & Install Fedora", or anything under "Troubleshooting." I also tried the "Basic Graphics" option from the Troubleshooting menu, but the result is exactly the same.

I do have video output initially, and the monitor is detected, but as soon as the kernel starts booting, the screen goes completely black and nothing else appears. I also tried booting with the nomodeset kernel parameter, but that made no difference. But i do have video, its a black screen but i have video, so i thought that could be a driver issue on linux or something else, i can use the desktop on windows without a issue.

At first I thought it might be a Fedora-specific issue (drivers or something similar), so I tested several other distributions: Fedora Workstation (GNOME), Debian 13, and CachyOS (since it's Arch-based and comes with more things configured out of the box). Every single one behaves the same way: black screen with no output.

For the installation media, I tried Ventoy, Balena Etcher, and Rufus, and I tested with three different USB drives. Since every combination produces the same result, I'm fairly confident the USB media isn't the problem. That makes me think it's something related to the BIOS or firmware settings, but I have no idea what it could be.

Hardware

• Ryzen 7 8700F
• Intel Arc B580
• ASUS B650M-A WIFI

BIOS settings

• Fast Boot: Disabled
• Secure Boot: Tried both Other OS and Windows UEFI Mode, with both Standard and Custom Secure Boot settings.

Additional information

I had Fedora installed on this exact system before (I believe it was Fedora 43), and everything worked normally. It booted without issues, video output worked, and I had no problems at all.

The only thing that changed before this started happening was that I used the BIOS option "Reset BIOS and Install Recommended Features." Before resetting, I had modified a few BIOS settings while testing different configurations, but I couldn't remember exactly what I had changed, so I reset everything and then reapplied only the settings I actually wanted, such as ASPM, Above 4G Decoding, and a few other fairly standard options.

I also tested both DisplayPort and HDMI, thinking the issue might somehow be related to the DP connection, but both behave exactly the same: the system reaches the bootloader, then the screen goes completely black.

1. Is Resizable BAR (ReBAR / SAM) currently enabled or disabled in your BIOS?
2. What is your current BIOS version on the ASUS B650M-A WIFI?
3. You mentioned that Fedora 43 previously worked fine on this system. Have you tried reinstalling or booting Fedora 43 again to confirm whether the issue is specific to newer kernel versions or affects all Linux installations on your current BIOS configuration?
4. The Intel Arc B580 officially supports Linux on Ubuntu 24.04 or later with kernel 6.12. Have you had a chance to test with Ubuntu 24.04 or a newer Ubuntu release?
5. Is this an Intel-branded card or a third-party card?
6. Can you please provide video of the issue?
7. Please run the Intel System Support Utility (SSU) and attach the report for system diagnostics:

• Download link: Intel SSU Tool
• After downloading, open the tool, run a scan (leave default options), click Next, then save the results as a .txt file, and attach it in your reply.
• Please note: While generating the SSU report, kindly uncheck the “Networking” option.

After days of troubleshooting, and issues, as last resource, i updated my bios, and solved the issue

Since it worked with Fedora 43 before the BIOS reset and now multiple Linux distros fail the same way suspect a BIOS/PCIe/GPU initialization issue rather than Fedora itself. Try loading BIOS defaults and leave ASPM disabled for testing, while enabling only Above 4G Decoding/Resizable BAR. Also check that the Arc B580 is set as the primary display GPU. If possible, testing another BIOS version would be worthwhile.
