Can't play videos neither ear sound on my external monitor since update to Windows 10. I own an Intel Iris 5200. Using the latest beta driver from 3 days ago

Hi,

I'm having problems with my computer since I have updated to Windows 10. The computer is a Gigabyte Brix so everything is basically from Intel: chipset, audio card, graphics card, etc.

The problem I'm having happens on every single video I play regardless the application used: Adobe Premiere, youtube, windows movie player, etc:

The videos seem to reproduce at half of the speed and without sound. Also, the external monitor has speakers and its connected via hdmi. The sound is not reproduced via monitor.

The only solution for this problem is uninstalling the graphics card driver but this results on a poor graphics performance, specially on Adobe Premiere which looses the ability to use the GPU acellarator.

I have downloaded and installed the latest beta driver from Intel, dates two days ago yet the problems remain.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 7/8.1/10* [15.40]

One curious fact. On driver properties, it the version doesnt match the specified on the driver page. Neither its signature. It is signed by Microsoft and not from Intel:

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

With my best regards,

Nuno

I have been testing driver version 4326 using external monitor with online videos and using mkv and avi files but I did not have any issues with audio through external monitor and the videos played fine.

Please bear in mind you are currently running a beta driver that does not have support until production version is released.

This is the link for production version: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 7/8.1/10* [15.40]

In regards to the driver version, I have same thing. This is not a problem.

Alan,

Thanks for your reply.

I have previously installed production driver 15.40 and yet it is unable to resolve the problem I'm having. I tried the beta driver in order to understand if the problems were already addressed.

I have again installed the production driver you suggested and they are not working for me. I cannot watch videos neither get sound via external monitor. This basically rendered my powerful computer kinda useless.

I would be here wasting mine and others time if this wasn't a real problem. Do you have any suggestion or idea of what should I try more?

As I said before, the only way of making videos smoother is by getting to the Iris 5200 Pro Graphics item on device manager and choose uninstall driver. As soon as it gets installed the problem appears.

As you can imagine, without a driver I dont have GPU accelerated performance. This is specially relevant for Adobe Premiere.

Please advise.

With my best regards,

Nuno Santos

Yes I understand this problem; however, I have tried to replicate same issue but I did not get same results. You may need to reinstall the operating system or get customized graphics driver from your computer manufacturer, or even wait for future driver releases at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ Intel® Download Center

Alan,

I have just downloaded the drivers from Gigabyte website, they are exactly the same drivers from Intel, but an older version: Driver Version: 15.40.3.64.4248

I have a Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi5-4570R: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4889# ov http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4889# ov

Alan, I'm a software developer myself. I know how hard it is to find problems that we can't experience ourselfs.

I'm available for additional testing and specifc procedures in order to help solve this problem. Are you an official Intel representative? Can you contact with the driver development team? Can you ask them what can cause the video reproduction to slow down to half of the speed (or less)?

Is there anything I can do? Is there any software I can run in order to provide you more information? If this is affecting me, i'm sure it will be affecting million of users worldwide. I'm sure Intel wants to be synonymous of excellence.

Please understand my pain. I had an incredible computer and now I don't.

Regards,

Nuno

Alan,

Couldn't install SSU.

I'm the computer administrator but the program fails to install saying that I need administrator privileges. Even if I force it, it will end up saying I need administrator privileges. Any ideas why? Workarounds?

The output of dxdiag its on the following pastbin: http://pastebin.com/1ZgQ9Dun dxdiag - Pastebin.com

It crashed when anaylsing direct show. If I try to rerun the analysis, it crashes again.

Description

Provide a detailed description of the issue

After update to windows 10 i'm unable to correctely reproduce videos on my computer. There are two main issues. Videos are reproduced in slows jumps back and forth on Adobe Premiere or any kind of stand alone movie player or at half speed on youtube.

Also, the sound doesn't come out of the monitor anymore. I have a small computer connected to an external monitor with speakers. I'm unable to get sound from the monitor what so ever. Altough, if I connect the headphones to the computer slot, I get sound.

Does it fail every single time, or only sometimes?

If you can offer a % rate please do.

It fails everytime! 100%!

Hybrid or switchable graphics system?

ie Does it have AMD or NV graphics too?

No. It's a small factor computer where probably all the important things are from Intel, chipset, graphics card, cpu, sound card, etc.

Alan,

I have accidentally discovered a really important piece of information that might trigger the reason of this bug on developers head.

For example, with youtube open and while playing a video with the problem happening, if I connect the headphones to the computer audio output, the problem instantly disappears, the video start running at normal speed, smoothly.

My opinion as a developer is that this bug is completely related with the HDMI audio output.

I hope this helps!

Nuno
