Confused about version numbers

A sticky thread reveils the net version of the Intel Graphics driver version 15.60.0.4849

Last weekend I installed my new system. It is using version 22.20.16.4815 (with some irritating flaws). 7 major version in a few weeks ?

(Its in Dutch: stuurprogrammaversie = driverversion )

Am I missing something here ?
