Crashes every few seconds while playing AC Unity with DXVK(Iris Xe,Intel Core i5 1135G7)

Basically the title. I have been using the latest drivers(6913 and now 6972) but the crash keeps happening, and it is consistent in cutscenes and random in gameplay. AI told me to use 3222 driver but I couldn't find it,so I appreciate if someone can link that too(Windows 11 23H2). I have attached d3d11.log too

Hi Yoru,

Thank you for positing in the community regarding the crashes you're experiencing while playing Assassin's Creed Unity with DXVK on your Iris Xe graphics. I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with consistent crashes, especially during cutscenes and gameplay.

To help us better diagnose the issue, could you please confirm if you have tried a clean installation of the latest driver? You can download the latest driver version 32.0.101.6972 from the following link: Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows*

Additionally, please let me know what troubleshooting steps you have already taken. If possible, I would appreciate it if you could provide a System Support Utility (SSU) report. If you haven't done so, please share the specifications of your system, including any relevant details.

Could you also let me know if the game was working correctly before, and when the issue started? If you have a screenshot of the error, that would be helpful as well.

If you prefer a faster communication method, please let me know if a phone call would be more convenient for you. I am available to discuss this issue at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,

Hey there
Thanks for replying to my post. Yes,I have tried a fresh installation of both 32.0.101.6913 and 6972 and both have the same issue. The issue does not exist when I play using native dx11,however,the performance isn't as good in that, which is why I use dxvk. It seems to be an issue with the vulkan driver,as the driver keeps glitching after the game crashes, until I fully restart my laptop. It also seems to be an issue in cutscene rendering,as they crash a lot too,but work on the second time(likely to do with shaders). I hope this is fixed, and I will provide an SSU report soon. My specs are Intel Core i5 1135G7,Iris Xe iGPU and 16GB 3200MHz RAM on Windows 11 23H2(for which HP,the manufacturer, does not provide drivers, they only list upto 22H2).

Hi Yoru,

Thank you for your detailed response and for trying a fresh installation of the latest drivers. I understand that the issue persists with both driver versions 32.0.101.6913 and 6972, and that it seems to be related to the Vulkan driver when using DXVK. I appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.

To help us further diagnose the problem, could you please provide a short video clip of the issue occurring? Additionally, if there is any error code displayed when the game crashes, that information would be very helpful.

I acknowledge that you will be providing an SSU report soon, which will assist us in understanding your system configuration better. Your specs, including the Intel Core i5-1135G7, Iris Xe iGPU, and 16GB 3200MHz RAM, are noted.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.

This is the SSU report(yes,to confirm,I have downgraded the driver for testing but it was the same on the latest drivers). I cannot share a clip as it is a random issue, and it is not exclusive to AC Unity,it also happens in AC Syndicate, which means it is likely to be a Vulkan driver issue. As for an error code, there is no error code. Though recently,I got an issue in the trackpad driver where my entire system crashed until I used WhoCrashed to check and uninstalled the driver(HP did not provide a newer one,but the issue got fixed after reinstalling).

Hi Yoru,

Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to resolve the issues you're experiencing with Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate. Since there is no specific error code and the issue is random, it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact cause. However, your insights are valuable, and we will continue to investigate potential solutions for Vulkan driver-related issues.

Regarding the separate trackpad driver issue, I'm glad to hear that you were able to resolve it by using WhoCrashed and reinstalling the driver.

To help us better understand and replicate the problem, could you please provide the following information:

  1. Which digital game service are you using to play Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate?
  2. When the game crashes, does it simply close without displaying any error messages? You mentioned there are no error codes.
  3. Could you share a screenshot of the game settings? This will help us attempt to replicate the issue on our end.
  4. Was the game functioning properly on this computer previously?

Additionally, please follow the steps in this link: Intel Community Guide for Reporting a Bug to obtain the dump file and share it with us. This will allow us to check for any generated dump files that might provide further insights into the issue.

Thank you for your patience and assistance. If you have any questions or need further support, please feel free to reach out.

Hey there,
1.I am using Ubisoft Connect to play Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate, both are the standard versions.
2.When it crashes, basically, the game freezes, then the screen turns black and the game stops responding, and Windows gives a message about that and it closes.
3.I am using the low settings preset. I have uninstalled the games due to the issue increasing so much that it is unusable, however I am open to reinstalling to test anything.
4.The games do function properly on this PC without dxvk, which means the issue is in the Vulkan driver itself. The DX11 driver does not have this issue. DXVK used to work fine last I tested, which was in Jan 2024 on GTA IV.
I hope the issue can be resolved
Thanks for replying.
I am currently installing Assassin's Creed III Remastered to see if the issue can be replicated in that too or if it is an engine specific issue. Though it seems to be a driver issue.

Hi Yoru,

Thank you for your detailed response and for providing additional information about the issues you're experiencing with Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate. I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with persistent crashes, and I appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to resolve this matter.

Based on your insights, it seems the issue is related to the Vulkan driver when using DXVK, as the games function properly without DXVK. I acknowledge that you are currently testing Assassin's Creed III Remastered to see if the issue can be replicated, which will help us determine if it's an engine-specific problem or a broader driver issue.

I appreciate your willingness to reinstall the games for further testing. Please let us know if you can provide the dump file as outlined in the Intel Community Guide for Reporting a Bug. This will allow us to check for any generated dump files that might provide further insights into the issue.

Thank you for your patience and assistance. If you have any questions or need further support, please feel free to reach out. We are committed to helping you find a resolution.

Hey there,
I have now tested Assassin's Creed III Remastered, and it seems to be an issue with the AnvilNext 2.0 Engine paired with dxvk because the issue is not present in AC III Remastered. I hope this helps in pinpointing the issue, and let me know which one of the two games I should test on to get the dump file, and how I can get it as I don't really understand that part. The issue is much more prominent in cutscenes in Unity btw.
Thanks for replying.

Hi Yoru,

Thank you for your continued cooperation and for testing Assassin's Creed III Remastered. Your insights are incredibly helpful, and it seems the issue may be related to the AnvilNext 2.0 Engine paired with DXVK, as the problem does not occur in AC III Remastered. This information is valuable in pinpointing the cause of the crashes.

To further investigate the Vulkan driver issue, could you please provide a dump file from one of the games where the issue is most prominent, such as Assassin's Creed Unity? The dump file will help us analyze the problem more thoroughly.

To obtain the dump file, please follow the steps outlined in the Intel Community Guide for Reporting a Bug. If you need any assistance with this process, feel free to reach out, and I'll guide you through it.

Thank you for your patience and assistance. If you have any questions or need further support, please feel free to reach out.

This is the only dump I could get. It includes the MiniDump, and the dxvk log files. I hope this helps, the rest of the folders could not be found.

Hi Yoru,

Following our investigation into the issues you've been experiencing, it seems that your system is utilizing DXVK, an open-source translation layer that uses Vulkan instead of DirectX. Please note that this is not part of our driver but rather a modification to the system libraries, categorizing it as a "third-party tool" issue. I recommend reporting this matter directly to the tool/mod developer at DXVK GitHub Issues.

Additionally, it appears that your system does not meet the game's requirements. Benchmarks indicate that the GTX680 significantly outperforms IrisXe, which may lead to instability and suboptimal performance even if the game installs and runs.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out. I will be closing this thread following the delivery of this message and no longer be monitored.

Hey there
Thanks for replying, but I am pretty sure all these details were already mentioned at the start of the discussion,so this isn't something new I mentioned. As for the issue, the Vulkan driver is crashing,so I don't think it's just a DXVK issue,so I would appreciate if you look into the issue on why it is crashing. I agree that it doesn't meet the minimum requirements, but the game runs even on DX11,so it's not an issue with that. All AC games except Shadows run on it,so I don't see why the requirements should be mentioned, unless the game is entirely not running. It's crashing in cutscenes and in certain areas when new shaders are compiled.
