DMW and Host Processes consuming high memory and gpu percentage

My Laptop has been showing high memory and GPU consumption since the last driver updates for Intel Wire and Bluetooth, The problem involves :
heating of the CPU side of laptop to 50-60 degrees as soon as I turn it on and does not settle down.
+ When ever I move my mouse cursor or open any application, the DWM GPU usage spikes from its normal 1% to 10% or more.
+ High CPU usage by host processes.

I have tried cleaning the fans assuming it might have been an issue with airflow and such but it didn't help.

My Laptop Specs:

IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10

CPU : 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H
GPU : Intel UHD integrated graphics.
 Windows 11 Home

Hello Magnum-Fantasy

Thank you for reaching out and posting your query on community.

We understand your concern regarding high memory and GPU usage, increased CPU temperature, and system performance fluctuations after the recent driver updates. I will do my best to assist you, and we will work together to identify the root cause of this behavior.

To help us analyze the issue more effectively, we kindly request you to share the below mentioned details .

  • Did the issue start immediately after installing Intel Wireless / Bluetooth driver updates, or were there any Windows updates installed around the same time?
  • Does the issue still occur when Airplane Mode is enabled?
  • What are the idle CPU temperatures in BIOS compared to Windows?
  • Does connecting an external monitor or changing display refresh rate affect the behavior?
  • Does the spike occur only on mouse movement, application launch, or continuously in the background?

Additionally, Kindly share the SSU Log file using the below link:

Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*

Please note: While generating the SSU report, kindly uncheck the “Networking” option.

Additionally, To address high GPU usage by DWM, you may also try the following:

Once we receive the SSU log and your responses, we will be able to perform a deeper analysis and guide you with the next steps.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Best regards,

  • Did the issue start immediately after installing Intel Wireless / Bluetooth driver updates, or were there any Windows updates installed around the same time? :Not immediately and yes there were Windows updates installed around the same time.
  • Does the issue still occur when Airplane Mode is enabled? : Yes
  • What are the idle CPU temperatures in BIOS compared to Windows? : Unable to check the Temps in Bios in my Lenovo Laptop but I believe that the temperature is around that range in the BIOS also due to the heat.
  • Does connecting an external monitor or changing display refresh rate affect the behavior? : My laptop display refresh rate is fixed at 60Hz, variable refresh rate does not affect the issue.
  • Does the spike occur only on mouse movement, application launch, or continuously in the background? : For GPU, Only when moving my mouse cursor, launching applications or opening Task Manager.
For CPU, its at random but not to the level at which it happens during launching an application.

Also the temperatures are 50-60 only when the fans are running at max speed, if the speed is lowered, the Temps rise to 70+

Windows is at the latest version.
I can't find the option for Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling.
Already tried rolling back to a previous driver version, but it didn't help.
Did a full scan from Windows Defender, nothing came up.
Even Cleaned the Fans of my laptop again.

Hello Magnum-Fantasy

Thank you for your detailed response and for sharing all the troubleshooting steps you’ve already performed it really helps narrow things down.

Based on the SSU log, I can see that you are currently using driver version 32.0.101.7076. There is a newer driver version available, 32.0.101.7085, which may include fixes or improvements related to the behavior you’re experiencing.

Could you please confirm if you have already performed a clean installation of this latest driver using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? If yes, kindly share the updated SSU log after installing version 32.0.101.7085, so we can review the current system status and assist you further.

Additionally, please be informed that Intel will move 11th–14th Gen Intel® Processor Graphics and related Intel Atom®, Pentium®, and Celeron® processor graphics to a legacy software support model.

Looking forward to your update.

Best regards,
