External Monitor works with Ubuntu but not Windows

I have a weird problem about my external monitor. I bought it one month before and I connect monitor to my laptop with hdmi. There was no problem for 1 month. However, when I boot my laptop yesterday, there was no signal warning on external monitor with hdmi. It is a sudden problem, since I didnt change anything on my laptop. If ı use vga cable, I can obtain display from external monitor but it is not satisfactory.

The weird thing is that if I connect laptop to another monitor with hdmi, there is no problem. In addition, if I connect my external monitor to a computer using UBUNTU, there is also no problem. but when I connect my monitor to a computer using Windows, I couldnt obtain display.

I uninstalled and reinstalled both embedded and external graphic cards. I tried every possiblities on screen resolution window and I have already used factory defaults option. I also tried unplugging hdmi and rebooting laptop recommendations, though i couldnt get anything so far.

my laptop: MSI GE60-0ND-453TR

embedded graphic : intel HD4000

external graphic: NVIDIA GTX660M

Both graphic drivers are updated.

Processor: Intel i5 - 3210m

External monitor: ASUS VK228H

Operating System: Windows Ultimate 7 (x64)

It is obvious that it is a firmware problem, but i couldnt get anything. Any recommendation will be appreciated.

Hi pshywar,

The computer you have comes with switchable graphics and it uses a special configuration. From our side, I can provide the graphics driver for your controller and it can be downloaded at the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23106&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23106&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers

In the case that the issue persists, I recommend you contacting the computer manufacturer so they can guide you with the configuration while using two graphics controllers.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your answer. However, as I said before I uninstalled and reinstalled current drivers numerous times for both graphic cards. There is no problem for my laptop, since I can obtain display from other monitors.

My monitor works if I connect to a computer using UBUNTU. But there is no display with other computers using Windows. It is obvious that a firmware like a driver caused this problem. But there is no rational reason for this issue. I hadn't changed anything or download any update before this problem arise.

I dont understand why external monitor started not to work with computers using WINDOWS. I tried ten computers using Windows, though there is no display.

Hi pshywar,

At this point since you have tried the drivers, I recommend you installing the monitor drivers and if possible disable the external graphics at the bios level. By doing this we can discard any possible compatibility issue on your unit. Another good step is to test different HDMI cables or change to a different monitor.
