HD 4000, how to get 23.976Hz and not 23.972?

On HD 4000, is there a way to get an exact 23.976Hz refresh rate, rather than the default 23.972? Maybe through a custom resolution/timing?

On HD 4000, there is no way. The limitation has to do with the clock generator logic in the display hardware block. The frequency dividers, etc that are available cannot generate exactly 23.976 Hz (24 frames /1001 ms). The closest you can get is 23.972. From the Haswell (HD4200, 4400, 4600, 5000, Iris 5100, Iris Pro 5200 ) and beyond the display hardware clocking logic can generate exactly 23.976.

Thanks. Where did you read about this? Any official word from Intel?

That's quite unfortunate. I've actually postponed the computer purchase, waiting for Haswell for a few months when it looked like release was imminent. But it was delayed. In the end I got an IB.

So, monitors are capable of adjusting slightly to match the refresh rate driven by the source device?

Can anyone from Intel confirm there's no way to get 23.976Hz on Ivy Bridge?

I work for Intel in the graphics team.
