HDMI Output failure on windows 8 with Intel(R) HD Graphics WDDM1.1

Just upgraded to windows 8 on my laptop and now my HDMI output is no longer working. I was using windows 8 preview and the HDMI output worked just fine. I have tried to update the driver with this download:

but when I do I receive an error message that reads:

"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements to install the software."

I have tried using the windows 7 64 bit driver located here:

but my HDMI output doesn't work with that drivertput

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I miss my 22" monitor.

@Navot: Can you try to use your OEM's latest driver for our graphics? You currently have our latest, which may not be supported by your system. Here's a link to that driver; http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=UX31E&hashedid=okyFhGJT4AM8jMkZ ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download UX31E It's listed under "VGA", version .2843. Let's start here and see if there's any improvement.

@PhucNH: I just checked your OEM's support website for your product. It does not currently have Windows 8* support. What this means is that a critical BIOS update or other software update has not been provided by the OEM to make your system compatible with the new OS. The Windows Update* provided in-box driver will make your graphics compatible, but the rest of your system still isn't. Unfortunately, you'll need to either re-install Windows 7*, or contact your OEM for more assistance with this.

I am also having a problem with HDMI output (no video or audio) on my Lenovo S300 notebook with Win8 64 bit and HD3000 graphics. Cables seem to be at the root of many of these black-screen issues as of late. Can you verify that your cable works with a different system/display, and if so - check your cable to make sure that it properly fits in the HDMI port on your system?

Hi Nic,

Thanks for your reply. I have just tried it again with two different cables, each of which is outputting good video & audio from different systems onto different HDTVs/monitors. I removed the cable from each and plugged it directly into my S300. As soon as I do this, both my system and the external monitor go black. I have no option to do anything other than remove the cable. My system display then reverts to normal and the external monitor returns to 'no signal'. So the cable is making a connection, but not providing any actual output. On some occasions I have managed to switch the display back to the laptop, and within the Intel Graphics Manager I have seen that the second screen is identified correctly. The cables do appear to fit properly into the HDMI port on my system.

Sorry for the delay in response - I've been working on this issue myself here recently now that we have a system showing a particular black-screen issue. Would you be able to verify for me if connecting two monitors to your system shows a difference in the issue? As in, put one monitor via one cable, and another monitor via another cable at the same time.

Hi Nic,

Lenovo diagnosed both software and mainboard faults with my laptop. I sent it away and it was returned yesterday. HDMI output now appears to work fine, so I guess we will never know the exact reason for my issue.

Hi keithinphilly,

The display you have that is not showing - have you tried connecting it just by itself to see if it works? If not, consider replacing the cables you are trying to connect with. Make sure it is a straight-through connection as well, no adapters/adapter cables, no KVM's, no AV/R's.

Hi Nic, or anyone else that can help. I am having this issue today sending video out HDMI from my Acer R7-572 running windows 8.1 . It was working fine yesterday so not sure what changed. I have also tested the monitor with the same cable on my other laptop and it detects and works just fine. Every time i connect it back to the Acer R7 I just get no signal on the monitor display.

I've tried both the latest driver off windows update and the older one off the acer support page for that unit. I am currently on the acer supplied driver. I've also updated the bios to latest.

Perhaps a complete uninstall of Intel® HD Graphics driver will help, first from Programs and Features and then from Device Manager. You may also use Windows* System Restore.

I see most of the people in this thread have Intel® HD Graphics (first generation). Let's remember that if you decide to use Windows* 8 only the Microsoft* inbox driver is available through Windows* Updates. Besides a straight-through connection, another option you can try is updating your BIOS.
