I can't display to a second monitor. Can anyone help?

My computer doesn't "detect another display" (won't display to a second monitor). My second display option worked fine used to work fine until I upgraded to Window 10.

I checked the Windows forum and tried the following and found that quite a few people have had this problem after upgrading to Windows 10. I tried a few of the fixes suggested:

When I check the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel>Display>Multiple Displays there are two options:

  • Select Display Mode: only 'Single Display' is shown
  • Select One or More Active Displays: the only option is 'Built-in Display'

I'm running an Intel Core M-5Y10c processor with HDMI connection.

Can anyone help?

Hello Zebadee16:

In order to better assist you we just need to verify a few details:

What is the model of the motherboard?

If this is a laptop, what is the model of the laptop?

Are you using an external graphics card?

Since the processor is using Intel HD graphics 5300, we can try the drivers below, please un-installed the current graphics driver manually and install the following drivers manually as well.

Un-install the driver manually:

Install drivers manually:

We can try driver 4501:

If that does not work we can try the beta driver 4539:

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Zebadee16:

I just wanted to check if the information provided previously was useful for you, and if the issue was resolved or if it still persists?

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks Alberto. Believe it or not I've been too busy with work to attend to this but will do so today and let you know. Thanks for your advice and interest.

Alberto - I've tried what you suggested. No joy. I uninstalled the driver and attempted to install driver 4501 by following the link. There were 4 options: .exe and .zip files for 32 bit and .exe and .zip for 64 bit. I selected .exe for 64 bit. That made no difference. I uninstalled again and installed the beta driver 4539. This time I followed instructions "How to Get ZIP Version of Intel® Graphics Driver". When I checked the installed Display Adaptor and selected the Driver tab, this is what I saw:

The advice note indicated the Driver Version should be 9.17.10.2875. When I try to update the driver by browsing for the unzipped file I have downloaded, I am presented with the following screen:

Still no joy. Please advise. To answer your questions:

What is the model of the motherboard? I've no idea. How do I check?

If this is a laptop, what is the model of the laptop? Asus ZenBook UX305

Are you using an external graphics card? I don't think so. I used the laptop 'out of the box' from day 1. How would I check? What do you mean by 'external'? External to what?

Many thanks

Hello Zebadee16:

Thank you very much for that information.

The reason why I asked if there was an external video card is because I thought this was a desktop PC, on a desktop PC you have the option to use an external video card, since this is a laptop it will depend on the manufacturer, same thing with the model of the board.

In this case, since those drivers are not working, the best thing to do now will be to get in contact with ASUS directly, since they are the manufacturer of the laptop they will provide further technical or warranty assistance, maybe a BIOS update is needed and they will let you know how to do it.

ASUS's phone number: 812-282-2787

ASUS's support site: https://www.asus.com/us/support/ https://www.asus.com/us/support/

Regards
