Hi developers,
I noticed that when intel Arc enabled MSAA in the games, the framerate will drop drastically. I am wondering what can I do to get the image quality and performance at the same time? Or if there will be a fix in the future to enhance the performance of it?
The game get affected I found so far:
World of Warships
CS2
War Thunder
Life is Strange
etc.
My PC config is
CPU: i7-9700
RAM: 2*16GB G.SKILL 3600 DDR4
MB: Gigabyte Z390 Designare
GPU: Intel Arc A770 16GB Limited Edition (ReBar on)
SSD: 1TB & 2TB Samsung 980 Pro(game is on the 2T one)
Driver version: 31.0.101.4887 (WHQL)
Thanks,
Bill Ge

Hello Bill_da_da,
Thank you for the information provided. We understand that there is a performance impact when enabling MSAA in multiple games. We would be more than happy to assist you, and to better help you, we would like to ask the following:
- When did the issue start? Was it present since day one?
- Could you share with us a video showing your issue in one game? This will help us have more insight into your issue and have the steps to reproduce your issue in case it is necessary.
- What happens if you select a different anti-aliasing technology, for example, FXAA?
- Based on the system information you shared, we noticed that your graphics driver is 31.0.101.4887. There are newer driver updates available in our download center, so we would like to recommend you update your graphics driver to the latest 31.0.101.4952, But before installing the driver, you should run the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Please note that previous driver files and leftovers can affect the functionality of your system, and the DDU tool will eliminate all the previous driver installation files.
Best regards

Hi Jean,
I just updated my driver and windows to the lastest version. However, I think MSAA still does poorly on performance compared with other anti-aliasing technology like FXAA or TAA. I understand that I can use alternative way to do the antialiasing but MSAA x8 is giving me great image quality over other AAs.
I think the issue if not video quality or something like that. It is just when I enable MSAA x8, the FPS of the game drops siginificantly and you should be able to repro it by setting that in the game(e.g. CS2). The issue stars from the day I started using A770.
Thanks,
Bill Ge

hi Jean,
I just found an example in Life is Strange where there is video corruption in MSAA as I posted in another thread. The framerate drops to around 120-130 versus topped up at 165(V-sync on) and utilization at 90% (MSAA x8)
Thanks,
Bill Ge

Hello Bill_da_da,
We would like to thank you for your patience on this matter. We would like to let you know that we have tried to replicate your issue internally, unfortunately, we have not been able to replicate the issue you described. However, it is important to mention that different technologies can have different impacts on performance; however, we do not see a huge difference based on our tests. You can also try running our latest driver, 31.0.101.4972.
