I have an Intel CS630 webcam and have recently moved to Win7. I love my CS630 Pocket PC web cam and find it produces a better picture than newer webcams I have purchased recently. The old Intel drivers are 32 bit and will not work with my 64 bit Win7. I am interested in creating a 64 bit driver so that I can use it. Does anyone know if Intel has put the CS630 drivers' source code in the public domain, or where it might be available? Thanks.
I would really like to know this to. If someone can let me know if they fi nd anything that would be awsome. I couldn't find anything and was sent all over the site searching.
After posting the above I searched the internet and found to downlodes that will scan your computer for out dated drivers. If you can get the drivers to download onto your computer I'm sure one of these may help:
The only other downlade I have found for the camera is for Windows 98, 2000, and xp and it is here:
Does anyone know where i can find a cord to the CS630?
I've lost mine several years ago and cannot find one anywhere online?
any luck with those win7 drivers?.. so far I've got 8 diferent cameras and none of them reach the picture quality of this one, so I've returned 'em all. I'm looking for the drivers because i got a new computer and guess what.. win7 in it. I hate that every company sells the computers with drivers for 7 or vista mostly. what the heck if I don't want that OS... even intel screwing everyone by nof offering drivers and I don't mean only this camera drivers. My Gear is an HP elite, is a powerful one, most things work fine but if I don't find my drivers I'm gonna have to return the whole thing.
Alas no, I have not yet attempted to build a 64bit (or 32 bit) Win 7 driver. I was rather hoping that someone at Intel would read the post and contact me either privately or publically to discuss releasing Intel's driver source code for the camera into the public domain. I really do not see what intellectual property loss Intel might suffer from doing this given the age of the camera. Like you, I have tried and returned a number of other newer webcams and not one of them is any where near the quality of the CS630 camera. Who knows, maybe one of Intel's elves will pass by this post on the way to Intel's Christmas Workshop and send the source code to me!
I also lost mine but I used one from an old moldem I donot use any more. Look at the back of the cam and you see that they are the same.
Compatibiltiy mode is for applications only, not for drivers, which need to match the operating systems mode -64 bit OS, 64 bit drivers; 32 bit OS, 32 bit drivers. The supplied drivers are 32 bit drivers: so will not work with a 64 bit OS.
I could be wrong since I am a hardware guy, But Ronnie, the MVP moderator over at the Microsoft Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility forum also post the instructions. ..
Maybe you should try it first , then come back to tell us if it worked work?
I tried the compatibility mode test (2 of them) and it failed, which is kind of what I expected, but worth a try. I tried both XP SP3 and Vista SP2 compatibility installations.
I think the compatibility mode for an install is more related to compatibility of the application with the OS's calling interfaces than to drivers, especially where the driver in the install package is 32bit and my Win 7 is 64bit, requiring a 64bit driver. Any way, always willing to try anything.
Happy New Year - 2011 - to everyone!
Thanks again Doc. I traced and downloaded the C code for that Linux driver. The code is there for a wide range of cams but to compile it would require an "Include" of about 20 different Linux specific headers so would take quite a while to walk the code to try and port it to Win 7.
BTW, I looked at your profile and your expertize: it looks very much like we are from the same computing beginnings/era. I have written drivers to run paper tape, disk drives, mag tape etc and TTY systems. Also I worked with core memory - how nice that was: no power failures to worry about!
BFN, take care.
iam also looking for drivers for this device i have win 7 64 bit system ultimate but tryed every thing to get it working got it reconised on a win 32 bit sys but still would not work it was installed and reconised but not working so think its time to stop using it and get a new 1 shame because it was a good cam.
