Intel DSA Not Detecting Update for UHD Graphics 620 Since Win 10 Pro v21H2 Installed

I have a Dell Inspiron 5584 with a Win 10 Pro v21H2 OS , 8th gen Intel i5-8265U CPU, and my Intel UHD Graphics 620 Driver is currently v27.20.100.9664. My Windows Update is configured so that it does not deliver driver updates [Local Group Policy Editor (run gpedit.msc) | Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components| Windows Update | Do Not Include Drivers With Windows Updates]. I normally install certified graphics driver updates recommended on the support page <here> for my Inspiron 5584.

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver certified by Dell is always months older than the latest available driver detected by the Intel Driver & Support Assist (DSA) utility, but in the past few weeks Intel DSA has stopped detecting the latest v30.0.101.xxxx driver as an available update

A. 02-Dec-2021: Intel DSA Recommends UHD Graphics 620 v30.0.101.1069

  • Had Win 10 Pro v21H1 (OS Build 19043.1348) and Intel UHD Graphics v27.20.100.8935 (Dell-certified driver installed by Dell SupportAssist utility on 08-Feb-2021); using Intel DSA v21.6.39.7 for update check.

B.  06-Jan-2022: Intel DSA Does Not Detect Latest v30.0.101.1191 Driver

  • Had Win 10 Pro v21H2 (OS Build 19044.1415) and Intel UHD Graphics v27.20.100.9664 (Dell-certified driver installed by Dell SupportAssist utility on 11-Dec-2021); using Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 for update check.

Is there a reason why the latest v30.0.101.1191 driver (rel. 14-Dec-2021) recommended on the Support for Intel UHD Graphics 620 page does not list Win 10 v21H2 as a compatible operating system, and could my recent operating system update from Win 10 Pro v21H1 to v21H2 on 21-Dec-2021 be the reason why the Intel DSA utility no longer detects an available update for my current v27.20.100.xxxx driver?

Hi @Gabriela_Intel , @Monique_Intel :

Good news. I update my Dell Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS from v1.16.0 to v1.17.0 today and Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA) v27.7.50.30 now detects the current v30.0.101.1191 update for my Intel UHD Graphics 620. I tested this morning with the previous BIOS v1.16.0 and no graphics driver update was detected by Intel DSA so I'm fairly certain the BIOS update fixed the problem.

Note that when I ran my Dell SupportAssist v3.10.4 and Dell Update v4.4.0 utilities this morning the urgent Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.17.0 update was the only recommended (Dell certified) update found for my Inspiron 5584 (see the Inspiron 5584 support page <here> for the full list of recommended drivers and software). The change log <here> for the BIOS v1.17.0 update doesn't say much except that "The update contains critical bug fixes and changes to improve functionality, reliability, and stability of your Dell system."

When I restarted my computer to finish the BIOS installation (e.g., while my Dell logo was on the screen and before Windows loaded) I noticed multiple messages about Intel components being updated (e.g., "Sending Intel Firmware Management update...") so I assume some Intel software and drivers were updated at the same time. Here's an image I captured of the BIOS v1.17.0 installation wizard just before restarting my system:

Dell BIOS v1_17_0 Update Wizard Restart Required EDITED 02 Feb 2022.png

Unfortunately, I chose to install my BIOS v1.17.1 update by downloading and running the Inspiron 5583_5584_1.17.0.exe installer manually from my Windows desktop instead of using a utility like Dell SupportAssist v3.10.4 or Dell Update v4.4.0 so there is no log file saved at C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService\UpdatePackage\log for the BIOS update.

Hi @ljmacri. Thanks for reporting this. We're sorry about that! We made a minor adjustment to 30.0.101.1191 (our latest driver) so that it should be offered via the Intel Driver & Support Assistant on 21H2. You should see the driver recommended to you within the next few days.

Please do let us know if you see any issues after installation.

Hi @Gabriela_Intel  :

Thank you for your reply.

I ran an update check today (26-Jan-2022) with the Intel Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA) v21.7.50.3 and it still can't find an available update for my current Intel UHD Graphics 620 v27.20.100.9664 driver (the older version currently recommended on the support page <here> for my Dell Inspiron 5584).

I noticed that the Support for Intel UHD Graphics 620 page still doesn't list Win 10 v21H2 as a compatible OS for the recommended v30.0.101.1191 driver ...

Intel UDH Graphics 620 Support Page v30_0_101_1191 Driver Not Compatible with Win 10 v21H2 26 Jan 2022.png

... even though the release notes <here> for the v30.0.101.1191 driver appear to have been revised and now list my Win 10 v21H2 / 8th Gen Intel Core processor as compatible, so perhaps that's part of the problem.

@ljmacri Please try clearing your browser cache and running the Intel Driver & Support Assistant again to check if that resolves the detection issue.

Windows 10 21H2 should appear on the support page by now so there is definitely an issue there. We'll notify the team responsible for the product support pages. Thanks for reporting this to us!

Hi @Gabriela_Intel :

I cleared my entire browser history (and temporarily disabled my ad blocker and all other browser add-ons) but Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA) v21.7.50.3 still reports "No supported driver or software updates are available for your system" for my current Intel UHD Graphics 620 v27.20.100.9664 driver.

Firefox v96 History Clear Recent History Everything 27 Jan 2022.png

I should also mention that I performed a clean reinstall of Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 back on 24-Jan-2022. Something must have gone wrong when Intel DSA automatically updated from v21.6.39.7 (installed 02-Dec-2021) to v21.7.50.3 (installed 06-Jan-2022) because when I went to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features (as well as Settings | Apps | Apps & Features) both versions were listed as installed.

Win 10 Pro v21H2 Control Panel Two Intel DSA Versions v21_6_39 and v21_7_50 EDITED 22 Jan 2022.png

I uninstalled both Intel DSA versions using Revo Uninstaller Free in Advanced Mode on 24-Jan-2022 and then reinstalled Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 with a fresh copy of Intel-Driver-and-Support-Assistant-Installer.exe I downloaded from https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html. Unfortunately, that clean reinstall didn't fix the problem.

I'll keep monitoring the Support for Intel UHD Graphics 620 page and will try another update check when Win 10 v21H2 is added as a compatible OS for the recommended v30.0.101.1191 driver, but if you think of anything else you'd like me to test just post back and let me know.

Hi @ljmacri   I am the IDSA project manager and our team will need your IDSA files to further investigate this issue.  Can you please go to C:\ProgramData\Intel\DSA on your system and highlight all 3 folders (Data, Downloads, Logs), right-click and zip them.  Then attach that zip file to this thread.  The ProgramData folder may be hidden on your system; if so you can go to View tab, and check the box to see Hidden Items.  We also would like your IDSA installer logs also: can be found in C:\users\user_name\appdata\local\temp and C:\windows\temp)

Thanks for your help,

Hi @Monique_Intel :

Here are the requested files. I hope the two files I found in C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Local\Temp dated 24-Jan-2022 are the installer logs you were looking for.

@ljmacri  Sorry to ask once again, but the developers wanted to see if you can provide any and all IDSA related logs in the 2 temp folders?  They are hoping to see a log related to the upgrade from v21.6 to v21.7 and what happened there since you had those 2 versions showing installed.

Thanks,

Hi @Monique_Intel :

I've attached every temporary Intel DSA log I could find to this reply (all 10 were located in C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Local\Temp; there was nothing in C:\Windows\Temp that looked like an Intel DSA log) but they're all dated 24-Jan-2024 from when I performed the clean reinstall of Intel DSA v21.7.50.3. If I recall correctly I had problems uninstalling the older Intel DSA v21.6.39.7 files (every time I tried to uninstall from either Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features or Settings | Apps | Apps & Features it wouldn't uninstall - instead, the installation wizard would start and prompt me to start a new install), and after a few tries I eventually gave up and removed both Intel DSA v21.6.39.7 and v21.7.50.3 with Revo Uninstaller Free in Advanced Mode and performed a clean reinstall of v21.7.50.3. Hopefully that explains why there are multiple logs dated 24-Jan-2022.

I'm afraid the temporary installation logs from 06-Jan-2022 when I updated from Intel DSA v21.6.39.7 to v21.7.50.3 that you asked for have already been deleted. I normally purge my temp folders (including C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Local\Temp) every weekend before I run my weekly backups so I don't have any temporary logs created before 23-Jan-2022. I can't even find any temporary logs associated with my clean reinstall of Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 on 24-Jan-2022 in C:\Windows\Temp; the two log files dated 24-Jan-2022 I attached to my previous reply (which I assumed were from my clean reinstall since they had the latest time stamp) were both found in C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Local\Temp.

I normally have the Startup Type of both my Intel DSA services Disabled and start them manually before launching the program from my Start menu to run a scan so it's always possible there was a glitch during the 06-Jan-2022 auto-update from Intel DSA v21.6.39.7 to v21.7.50.3 because I forgot to start one of the services before starting my scan. I haven't found any way to prevent Intel DSA from loading at Windows startup every day (see my 28-Mar-2020 thread Can I Stop the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSA) From Loading at Boot-up?) and I only run Intel DSA scans a few times a month so I don't need those services constantly running and hogging system resources. Intel DSA won't start correctly if the Startup Type of the Intel Driver & Support Assistant (DSAService) is set to Manual so I normally have both services Disabled and have to remember to start them manually before running a scan.

I haven't changed the defaults of any Intel DSA services or Intel scheduled tasks since my clean reinstall of Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 on 24-Jan-2022, so I'm not sure why Intel DSA v21.7.50.3 can't detect the current v30.0.101.1069 drivers for my UHD Graphics 620, unless compatibility with my Win 10 Pro v21H2 OS is still an issue.

Hi @Gabriela_Intel  @Monique_Intel  :

Just a status update to let you know that I updated to Intel Driver & Support Assistant v22.1.8.8 on 25-Feb-2022 and this newer version still appears to be working correctly and is able to detect an available update for my Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver.

The only minor glitch I can see is that the Intel Driver & Support Assistant v22.1.8.8 recommends the latest v30.0.101.1340 driver (rel. 07-Feb-2022) ...

Hi @Gabriela_Intel , @Monique_Intel :

Just one minor outstanding issue I should mention.

The Support for Intel UHD Graphics 620 page has now been updated and lists Win 10 v21H2 as a compatible OS for driver v30.0.101.1191 but the release date of the driver is incorrectly displayed as "NaN/NaN/NaN" instead of "12/14/2021".
