Intel Grahics Driver Updates

Whenever Intel bugs me to update my drivers the Graphics driver removes my Realtex driver and I have no sound.

This has been going on for a long time now.  It is really unacceptable for Intel Graphics to mess with my sound card with no option to ask whether I want it to do that.

I have to re-install the RealTek driver.  Seems like a particularly arrogant, unnecessary and incompetent thing to do.

Hello PeterB2,

Thank you for posting your query on the Intel Community Forum.

I understand how frustrating it must be to have your Realtek audio driver removed after updating the Intel® Graphics driver, resulting in the loss of sound. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and I will do my best to assist you in investigating the issue.

To help us better understand the behavior, could you please provide the following information?

  • Is the Realtek audio driver provided by your system manufacturer (OEM), or did you install it manually?
  • Does the issue occur every time you install or update the Intel® Graphics driver, or only with a specific driver version?
  • Are you installing the graphics driver using Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) or by downloading it manually?
  • After the graphics driver update, does the Realtek audio device disappear from Device Manager, or does it remain listed with an error?

Additionally, please provide an Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) report by following the steps below: Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*

  1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility (SSU).
  2. Run the utility and click Scan.
  3. Click Next, then Save.
  4. Attach the generated report in your reply.

Note: While generating the SSU report, please ensure that the “Networking” option is unchecked.

Once we receive the requested information and the SSU report, we will review the details and continue investigating the issue.

Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to your response.

Best Regards,

Chawan

Hello PeterB2,

Thank you for response.

I understand how frustrating it is to lose audio after updating the Intel® Graphics driver.

I noticed your system is currently using an older graphics driver version. To help address this behavior, I recommend updating to the latest Intel® Graphics driver available for your system. Intel® 11th – 14th Gen Processor Graphics - Windows*

As of September 19, 2025, Intel has moved 11th–14th Gen Intel® Processor Graphics (and related Intel Atom®, Pentium®, and Celeron® processor graphics) to a legacy software support model. These products now receive quarterly software updates, with additional releases only for critical fixes and security vulnerabilities.

If the issue persists after updating the graphics driver, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Update the Realtek audio driver by downloading the latest version from your system or motherboard manufacturer's website.
  • If the Realtek audio device is missing in Device Manager, try adding the device as legacy hardware through Device Manager.
  • Restore your BIOS settings to the default configuration, save the changes, and restart the system.

If the issue still persists, kindly share an updated Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) report. If needed, we can also arrange a Remote Assistance Session (RAS) to investigate the issue further.

Thank you, and I look forward to your update.

Best Regards,

When it recently updated and caused the problem I rolled back the Intel Graphics driver which didnt fix the problem. I then re-installed the Realtek driver to get my sound back.  I then updated the Graphics Driver again and all is OK.  Strange.
