Hi
I have a year old HP Legion Laptop with Intel Integrated and an NVIDIA 5070.
I cannot get a second monitor working via the HDMI.
When I go into the Intel Graphics Command Center, I have 2 Monitors showing - the 2nd monitor claims to be the internal display is 'disabled' and won't enable. The 1st monitor doesn't have a descriptor when I hover over it... BUT - it *IS* the internal display.
If I plug something in via the HDMI cable, it doesn't register and won't come up.

Hello WNJ,
Thank you for reaching out to Intel Customer Support and for the detailed description of what you are seeing. I can see why this is confusing, especially with the display assignments in Intel Graphics Command Center not lining up the way you would expect. I want to help get your second monitor up and running, so let me ask a few questions to point us in the right direction.
Before anything else, I just want to flag something that may actually be the key to solving this. On laptops that have both Intel Integrated Graphics and a discrete GPU like your NVIDIA 5070, the HDMI port is very often physically wired to the discrete GPU rather than the Intel integrated graphics. This means the external monitor connected via HDMI might not show up in Intel Graphics Command Center at all, and would instead need to be configured through the NVIDIA Control Panel or Windows Display Settings. So as a quick first check, could you try the following?
- Right-click on your desktop and open Display Settings. Does the external monitor appear there when it is plugged in via HDMI?
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and go to Display, then Set Up Multiple Displays. Does your external monitor show up there?
To help me look into this further, could you also share the following details?
- Please run the Intel System Support Utility (SSU) and attach the report to your reply.
- Have you tried a clean driver reinstallation using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode?
- Have you tested the HDMI port with a different monitor or TV to see if the result is the same?
- Did this issue start after a specific Windows or driver update?
- Was this working before? What were the recent changes?
Once I receive the requested information, I will review the results and determine the appropriate next steps.
Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Bueno S.

Try updating the Intel and NVIDIA drivers from HP, check for a BIOS update, and test with a different HDMI cable or monitor. Also press Win + P and choose Extend to see if Windows detects the display. If it's still not detected, the HDMI port may have a hardware issue.

I had already updated Drivers and BIOS.
I ended up taking it to a repair shop (it was still under warranty) and they found that the HDMI port went bad - they are getting a replacement from the manufacturer.

Hi WNJ,
Thank you so much for the update, and I am really glad to hear you were able to get it looked at while it was still under warranty! That said, it sounds like the repair shop was able to pinpoint the issue right away, so that is definitely a step in the right direction.
I will go ahead and wait for your next update once the replacement comes in and everything is sorted out. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything in the meantime or if there is anything else I can help you with along the way.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes!
Best regards,
Bueno S.
