Intel HD 620 Screen Flicker Windows 11

safmatebookxpro

Hello

When using MS Photos, I have noticed an irritating screen flicker to black which lasts a few seconds when working with images. It happens consistently and is ruining my user experience. This issue also sometimes occurs when Alt+Tabbing between applications and maximising videos when replaying.

My laptop has Intel HD620 and an NVidia MX150 as display adaptors.  I have isolated that the issue resides with the HD 620 due. When I disable the HD620 (and the system runs purely on the Nvidia) then the screen flicker goes away.

I have updated graphics drivers to latest, including trying clean installs by uninstalling and reinstalling, but the issue remains.

I believe this started happening after updating to Windows 11.

Can you please help? Do I need to change settings or change to another driver?

Some system information is pasted below, please let me know if you need any further information.

Hello @safmatebookxpro

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to review this further, please provide us with the following information:

1- Did you just upgrade from Windows* 10 to Windows* 11 using the upgrade feature in Windows Updates? Or did you upgrade by doing a fresh install from scratch?

2- Is the issue observed using the customized graphics driver provided by the computer manufacturer (OEM) Huawei?

3- Fill in the Graphics bug report.docx available in this link and attach the report to your reply.

4- Could you please share a video showing the behavior/issues:

5- If this happens only on the built-in display, have you tested using an external display?

6- Have you made sure the operating system is up to date with no pending updates?

Best regards,

Hi there - thank you for responding to my thread

1. The upgrade was done on using the upgrade feature in Windows update, not a clean install of Windows 11

2. The issue was observed only recently after Windows updated. The graphics driver has been continually updated beyond the original driver set that was provided with the laptop

3. I have attached the graphics report

4. Intel UHD 620 screen flicker issue on Huawei Matebook X Pro Windows 11 - YouTube - you can see that the screen flickers to black when rotating the image in MS Photos. The image then reappears sometimes shortly, other times it takes longer.

 5. I tested on an external display as you suggested and when testing, the issue repeats on the local laptop's display, but NOT on the external display. This has left me wondering whether its an issue just with the device screen? However, the fact that when I disable the Intel display adapter, and use only the NVidia MX150 to drive graphics, the local display seems fine.

6. OS fully up to date

I have pasted the graphics bug report below. I was unable to attach the document.

Thanks for your help.

Hello safmatebookxpro

Thank you for your response and for the video, it is very helpful.

Please review the following additional steps and kindly let us know if the behavior persists:

1- Go to Windows Settings > Apps & Features, look for Microsoft Photos > click on it and then click on "Advanced options" > click on (1) Terminate, (2) Repair, (3) Reset. If that doesn't help, you may try to uninstall the app and reinstall it from the Microsoft* Store.

2- Check for any equipment near the built-in display that could be causing electrical noise.

3- Try changing the refresh rate to a lower setting, for instance, based on the report, the built-in display supports 48Hz and 60Hz. If you are using 60Hz, try 48Hz. You may change this from the Intel® Graphics Command Center > Display > General tab or use Windows Advanced Display Settings.

4- If the Panel Self Refresh setting is available in the Intel Graphics Command Center, test by disabling it by following the steps in this article: How to Enable and Disable Panel Self Refresh. (Note: the availability of this feature depends on the computer manufacturer (OEM) customizations).

5- Run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool to verify that both the processor and the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) are fine. To save the report, once the test is done, click on "File >> View Results File" and attach the .txt file to your reply.

6- We understand that you have tried the Clean Installation of Intel® Graphics Drivers. If you have already tried a clean install of the latest driver 30.0.101.1994, we suggest testing with previous versions to see if this could be related to a driver version issue. For instance: you may test versions 30.0.101.1660 or 30.0.100.9684.

We will be looking forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Andrew G.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your helpful suggestions. This really is a helpful support community.

I have gone through the suggested steps that you have outlined above and unfortunately I am still having the issue

1. Done all steps. I don't think it is an issue with the application itself, the bug appears in other apps, too (video editing, Chrome). I am just using MS Photos to illustrate the issue. I tried the repair and the reinstall, but to no avail.

2. No nearby electrical noise.

3. Tested a reduced refresh rate to 48 Hz, but again no success. The flicker still appears.

4. Panel self refresh was already disabled in the Intel Graphics Command Center, so I took no further action. The flicker still appears.

5. Ran the test, it appeared to pass and attached the report below.

6. Tried clean installing all driver versions linked to your response - but the issue still remained. I am currently on driver version 30.0.100.9684.

Thanks again for the helpful responses. I look forward to your response.
