Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB

I have a Macbook Air (MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)), 1.6 GHz Core i5, with an Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB card in it. It has stopped talking to an external monitor via the Thunderbolt port. I have another MBA that has the 5000 version of the same card, But that's a 1.7 Ghz Intel Core i7 (different chip set).

The 1.7 Ghz machine has no issues with connecting to an external monitor - but the i5 1.6 Ghz machine is not connecting to the monitor. This is the second machine in this class that's had the identical problem.

It was trying to start up repeatedly - but it only would stabliize after 4-6 tries - then it would be up all day - today for the first time it's just failing 100%

Has anyone heard of any issues w/r/t this machine/Graphics card combination? It feels like there is a problem w/ the video card in this lot of machines...
