Intel HD video ram

I always wondered about this but my Sony notebook has a Intel HD graphics card and my question is that is my video card using 1.7 GB of video ram totaly from the system ram? I do have 4 GB of system ram right now so does that mean that I only basicly have 2.3 GB of ram left for my system since 1.7 GB is used for the video card?

That´s not correct. I have a 350M processor and The Intel HD Graphics CAN use from 32Mb to 1696Mb from the system memory but it depends on what apps you are using at the moment.
