Intel Nuc , displays will not come back on after the screens turning off.

After leaving the intel nuc alone to for 45 minutes the displays turn off. However it cannot be woken up and the only way to get the computer back on is a hard reboot. I have remote management software on this pc and can still send command to such as reboot etc.

Seems to be some sort of display driver issue. It is not set to sleep at all , in the short term i have turned off the settings that shuts the displays off. It has happened across two different NUCS over my sites. Started on monday , Updates were done last wednedsay.

Fred,

I've followed your direction to uninstall, restart and then re-install the new driver.

It still does not help with the issue. The screen flashes as soon I restart the windows after the driver is installed.

On the other hand, when the intel driver is NOT installed, the screen works fine.

Hello Wakkigy,

Would you please attach the Intel Graphics Driver Report? This link will show you how to generate it https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html

Have you tried different HDMI cable and/or different TV/monitor?

Have you noticed if the issue happens when you are doing something in specific in the computer?

Regards,

I have the same issue using a NUC7I7BNH with a Samsung 28" 4K monitor via HDMI cable. Screen flickers (goes black for a second and comes back) as soon as some 3D operation is going on, even when browsing the web when the browser uses the GPU to render the page.

Fred,

I've attached the driver report.

I used two different cables and both had similar problem. Usually, I am trying to play a video when using the NUC, but even after a fresh restart when just booting into Windows, it would still flash the black screen.

On a side note, I found a mini-DP adapter that I had and when using it, the screen flash goes away. So I think its related to the HDMI port.

I tried connecting via Mini DP and I got the screen to flicker twice in about 2 hours.

Hello LeRatLuciano,

I am sorry to hear you are also having issues with your Intel NUC NUC7I7BNH.

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer. Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Please also attach the Intel Graphics Driver Report. This link will show you how to generate it https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Hello Wakkigy,

If possible test a little bit more the system with the mini-DP cable and let me know if issue persists or not.

Please also try the HDMI cable with different screen resolution.

Hello LeRatLuciano,

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

I would like you to try updating some of the computer drivers in a specific order.

Install this driver first, and then restart the computer https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26801/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN?product=95065 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26801/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN?product=95065

Install this other driver, and then restart the computer one more time https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26482/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN?product=95065 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26482/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN?product=95065

Please download this graphics driver https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26772/eng/win64_154518.4664.exe https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26772/eng/win64_154518.4664.exe

Has the system worked fine before? Was there any software or hardware change before the issue started happening?

As soon as the graphics driver has been downloaded on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, restart the computer, and then reinstall the driver I provided.

Regards,

Ok now some details

- I've been using DP instead of HDMI since yesterday. Result: flickered only once

- Resume from sleep works 100% of the time via DP instead of HDMI

- Not a single flicker since today over DP after installing the drivers in the order you mentioned

- When using 2560x1440 (non native resolution), I see black boxes flickering around some application windows (Chrome, and electron-based apps). Does not happen in 4K.

Hello LeRatLuciano,

Thanks for the additional details you are sharing with us.

If possible try different HDMI to HDMI cable from different manufacturer. Since the issue does not seem to be happening with mini-DP then the issue might not be related to the driver/operating system.

Tried with new driver. Flickering still occurs, even a non-4K resolution (2560x1440).

Hello LeRatLuciano,

Are you using a mini-DP to Displayport* cable?

Have you tried different refresh rates?

Let me also know the model number of the monitor/TV you are using?

USB-C to mini-DP -> mini-DP to DP -> Samsung LU28E590DS/ZA

Tried 60hz, 59hz and 30hz. Flickering at every refresh rate.

Hello LeRatLuciano,

I would like to confirmed you have checked in your computer that the Windows* Update KB4022716 is not currently installed in your computer. In case you have not tried that please right click on Start button -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> View installed updates, use the search bar to look for update KB4022716, right click on it and select Uninstall. Restart the computer and test the system.

Is it possible for you to either reinstall the operating system or to test Windows 10* on a spare drive you may have available? This is just to make sure the issue is not been caused by the operating system or a Windows* update. In case you can reinstall the operating system test the system with Windows* Updates temporarily disabled.

Regards,

Update KB4022716 shows up in the update history view of Windows 10 Settings, but doesn't appear in the list when clicking on "Uninstall updates...".

I tried running the cmomand line:

wusa /uninstall /kb:4022716

but it said the update wasn't installed.

I cannot reinstall Windows right now since it's my work PC.
