Issue: Launching any camera app (Teams, Zoom, Windows Camera) causes an immediate kernel lockup—frozen screen, unresponsive peripherals, looping audio requiring a hard power button reset.
Key Details:
Timing factor: The issue only occurs after the system has been up for 1–2 hours. Camera access works normally immediately following a reboot.
Trigger patch: Started directly after the February 2026 Windows cumulative update (KB5077179 / KB5077181) and persists in March updates. Rolling back/pausing temporarily fixes it, but deferring updates long-term isn't viable.
Suspected Cause: Power/state transition deadlock between the Intel Visual Sensing Controller and Windows Presence Detection when requesting the video stream. Instead of a driver crash/reset, it throws an unhandled kernel exception that freezes the machine at the hardware level.
Anyone seeing similar behaviour on these platforms with Intel VSC?
Troubleshooting Attempted (No Resolution)
Patch Management: Blocking Feb KB resolved it, but March KB reintroduced it (blocking updates permanently isn't viable).
Drivers & Order:
Clean reinstall of Intel IPU6, companion bridges, and Intel Visual Sensing Controller via Device Manager (Devices by Connection).
Explicit install order tested: Chipset $\rightarrow$ Management Engine (ME) $\rightarrow$ Serial IO $\rightarrow$ Sensor Solution $\rightarrow$ 2D Imaging/MCU/VSC.
Tested Intel Management Engine driver Intel_R_ME_SW_2601.9.16.0 to resolve observed version mismatches across systems.
Removed/matched Windows AI Camera feature drivers.
Updated all BIOS, GPU, and Chipset via Dell Command Update (Advanced Driver Restore).
OS & Settings:
sfc /scannow and DISM returned no corruption.
Added EnableFrameServerMode = 0/1 to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform.
Enabled Basic Camera Mode in Windows settings.
Verified desktop app camera permissions.
Disabled HW acceleration in Teams, Zoom, and Edge WebView.
Full PXE re-image of Windows and apps.
Hardware & Power:
Toggled Intel Turbo Boost off to isolate C-state transition/voltage issues.
Issue persists across all power modes: AC power, docks, or battery-only (no peripherals).

Hello Devh1,
Thank you for reaching out to us via community.
Before we proceed, please note that this is an OEM device, we will try to assist you with general troubleshooting steps even if it’s something not traditionally covered in our support. However, if the issue still persists, you will have to contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer of your device. Your device manufacturer may have altered features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to some components for better compatibility with your system.
To further assist you with your concern and to provide you with the best possible support, could you please provide the following information?
- May I know if you have tried to use the OEM driver?
- Can you also share the crash dump for further checking?
Also, To better understand your system's configuration, we kindly request that you download the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. You can find the download link here: Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*
Here's a quick guide on using the Intel SSU:
- Download and launch SSU.exe.
- Check the box for "Everything."
- Click "Scan."
- When the scanning is complete, click "Next."
- Click "Save."
I look forward to your response!
Best regards,
Shane E.

Hi,
Our user are also facing the same issue for months now.
I have been in contact with Dell as well but no luck after trying 10 million different things.
Could you please look into this matter and give it more attention as alot of people are facing this issue specifically with the 5680s.
Thanks in advance!

Isn't it easier to just say you're working on fixing the problem instead of making people go through this procedure?
You already have the same logs from many other users. There have been countless reports of this exact issue for months, and nothing has been done. It feels like we're being treated like fools.
