IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service (v.32.0.101.6325) Crashes During Shutdown

Hello,

I initially posted about this issue in another thread (here), but I was advised by the moderator to create a separate thread.

The Issue

The IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service crashes during the shutdown process of my PC. This problem started immediately after upgrading my OS to version 24H2. Prior to the upgrade, the Intel Graphics Driver (v.32.0.101.6325) and the associated control application were functioning perfectly on the 23H2 setup.

Driver Information

The driver was recommended by the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant, and I downloaded it directly from Intel's official site:  Download Link
(File name: gfx_win_101.6325_101.6252.exe)

What I’ve Tried

  1. Repaired the installation via setup – no success.
  2. Performed a clean installation by selecting the clean installation option in the setup – same negative result.

Observations

  • The crash only occurs during the shutdown process.
  • It doesn’t cause a BSOD or affect the performance of the computer during normal use.
  • The Intel® Graphics Software itself runs smoothly without crashing.
  • No performance issues during activities like browsing, writing, or video editing.

System Specifications

Intel Core i7-12700K / ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 / Kingston DDR4-3603 KF3600C17D4/8GX (4x8Gb) / Gigabyte AORUS Waterforce 240 Liquid Cooler 2x120mm / Gigabyte AORUS 850W Fully Modular 80+Plus GOLD PSU GP-AP850GM / Kingston SKC3000S512G NVMe (PCIe x4) / Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB / Western Digital Gold 2Tb WD2005FBYZ-01YCBB3
Windows 11 Pro Version: 24H2 Build: 26100.2605

I’d greatly appreciate any guidance or solutions to resolve this issue.

Thank you,

After some experimentation the solution I found to stop this error in Reliability Monitor was:

1.  Settings - Apps - Startup; turn off Intel Graphic Software.

2. Windows Tools - Services - Intel Graphics Software Service; Startup Type ; set to Manual.

I no longer have any Intel Graphics error entries in the Reliability Monitor History.

May I add that I don't run any games on my PC, so I do not know whether this workaround will affect games play.

Update: IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service Crashes Affecting System Reliability

Hello,

I am still experiencing crashes with the IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service during shutdown, as described in my original post. I wanted to provide additional information to illustrate the impact this issue is having on my system's stability.

Attached is a screenshot of the Reliability Monitor, showing how these crashes are significantly affecting the reliability of my PC.

Screenshot 2025-01-02 124936.png

As I said in my previous post:

  • The issue started immediately after upgrading my OS to version 24H2.
  • The driver version installed is v.32.0.101.6325, downloaded directly from Intel's website.
  • I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps:
    1. Repair installation – no success.
    2. Clean installation – no success.

Despite these efforts, the service continues to crash during every shutdown.

Questions for Intel:

  1. Are there known compatibility issues between the driver/service and OS version 24H2?
  2. Are there plans for an updated driver release to address this issue?
  3. Is there a workaround or additional troubleshooting step I could try in the meantime?

This issue hasn’t caused BSODs or performance issues during regular use, but the constant crashes are frustrating and affect my confidence in system reliability.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter.

Hello DimDim,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with Intel Graphics Software as it crashes during shutdown. For me to properly address this concern, please share the information below.

1. Have you tried rolling back to the previous working Windows version 23H2 to help isolate the issue?

2. Please generate SSU report - How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*

Additionally, we have released a new graphics driver version 32.0.101.101.6256. Please try to download it here and perform clean installation.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jed G.

Hello @JedG_Intel,

Thank you for your response.

On January 2nd, just a day before your reply, the Intel Driver & Support Assistant notified me about a new version of the graphics driver. I updated from v.32.0.101.6325 to v.32.0.101.6449, but unfortunately, the issue persists—IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service continues to crash in the background during every shutdown.

Rolling back to Windows 23H2 is not an option for me, as the Windows.old folder is no longer available.

I have attached the SSU file to this post for your review.

Best regards,

Hello @JedG_Intel

I have the same issue. And I also have updated to the latest version 6449. It crashed when I open and close the app and I also noticed in my intel graphics software the version date is 1 Jan 01. I attached the screenshot of the reliability report (all errors are from intel graphic.ssofteware)

Please help to what to do. Thanks

Hello @JedG_Intel,

Today, I performed a clean installation of the Intel Graphics Driver, updating from version 32.0.101.6449 to version 32.0.101.6458. Unfortunately, the IntelGraphicsSoftware.Service continues to crash during every shutdown.

Do you have any updates or additional guidance on resolving this issue?

Best regards,

The issue persists!

  • I performed a repair install of Windows 11 via an in-place upgrade.
  • I also uninstalled the display driver
  • I ran Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) twice, and then
  • I did a clean install of the latest Intel Graphics Driver 32.0.101.6559 (WHQL Certified).

Unfortunately, nothing has changedIntelGraphicsSoftware.Service.exe still crashes every time I shut down my computer.

It has been almost two months, and I have yet to see any support or resolution from Intel.

@ZepherOne, I appreciate the workaround you suggested, but unfortunately, it does not work in my case

Yes,  same with me. Updated yesterday to the latest graphics driver (32.0.101.6458) on Win 11 (23H2 22631.4751) and the error still persists on shutdown.

The following workaround worked for me.

Turned off the System Tray Menu option in both the Intel Graphics Software and Intel Graphics Command Center as shown below.

I don't see any application or service crashes in my reliability history.  I hope this leads to an actual fix later where I can turn the system tray menu back on.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I have tried to disable that tray icon, but the error message still appears.

kinda have the same issue, don't get an error message but after clean install, when I reboot, the intel graphics software no longer launches.

I have the same issue, i didn't know this issue with mine started weeks ago as i have just recently checked the reliability monitor (just learnt about this).

I'm concerned if this would cause hardware problems if this persist.

Hi @NFP,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing your workaround!

Your solution worked perfectly for me.
It’s such a relief to have this issue resolved, especially after not finding a solution through Intel Support.

Your clear and helpful post made a huge difference, and I’m grateful you took the time to share it with the community.

Thanks again!

Best regards,
