I have a lenovo carbon X1 gen 13, with an Ultra 7 258V. The graphics card does not seem to work properly. Firefox and chrome are unable to connect to it. I am running Ubuntu 2025. I also installed the latest intel drivers from the ppa as described here: https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html.
If I run:
% intel_gpu_top
No device filter specified and no discrete/integrated i915 devices found
Which I guess means there is something going on? Some other diagnostics
% sudo dmesg | grep i915
[sudo] password for matias:

Hi @MGN1,
Thank you for posting here in our community. To effectively diagnose and address the issue you're experiencing, I kindly ask you to provide detailed responses to the following questions. This information will help us isolate the problem and determine the most appropriate course of action.
- Please provide the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* Operating System report and share it here so I can review your system's configuration.
- When did the issue first occur? is it working fine before?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes to the system recently?
- Are there any error messages or logs that indicate a problem with the graphics card when using Firefox or Chrome?
- Can you test the graphics card with a different operating system to see if the issue is specific to Ubuntu 2025?
- What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
Please note that this is an OEM device, so we will try to assist you with general troubleshooting steps. However, if the issue persists, you will have to contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer of your device. Your device manufacturer may have altered features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to some components for better compatibility with your system.
I look forward to your response and am committed to resolving your issue promptly.
Warm regards,
Randy T.

Hi,
To your questions:
- When did the issue first occur? is it working fine before?
-> Since installing the OS, it always was like this.
- Have you made any software or hardware changes to the system recently?
-> No.
- Are there any error messages or logs that indicate a problem with the graphics card when using Firefox or Chrome?
-> Yes:
MESA: warning: Driver does not support the 0x64a0 PCI ID.
libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen
libEGL warning: failed to get driver name for fd -1
libEGL warning: MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information
libEGL warning: failed to get driver name for fd -1
MESA: warning: Driver does not support the 0x64a0 PCI ID.
libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen
There is also the error I already mention from running
intel_gpu_top
- Can you test the graphics card with a different operating system to see if the issue is specific to Ubuntu 2025?
-> No. But I have a second copy of this laptop also with Ubuntu with the exact same problem. I therefore do not think is a hardware issue.
- What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
-> I tried installing the latest intel drivers from the ppa. I tried upgrading the kernel to 6.15.7. I tried using different builds of firefox.
Thanks for trying to help!

Hi @MGN1,
The error message you received suggests that there might be a compatibility issue between your graphics hardware and the current driver configuration. This can occur if the driver does not support your specific hardware or if there is a misconfiguration in the system.
To help us better understand and address the problem, I would appreciate it if you could provide a screen video recording of the steps you take during the installation or configuration process. This will allow me to observe how the issue occurs and assist in replicating it on our end for a thorough root cause analysis.
In the meantime, I will explore alternative configuration options that may be compatible with your system. My goal is to find a solution that works seamlessly for you.
Your cooperation is invaluable in helping us resolve this matter efficiently.
Regards,
Randy T.

Hi Randy,
to be clear, you'd like a video of me installing ubuntu 25.04 on this laptop?
I can do that, but it really is a vanilla install of the system.
Best regards

Hi @MGN1,
Yes, please if possible. I'm currently checking on my end to see if I can reproduce the issue. Once you have the recording, kindly share it here and include any error messages that appear when the two mentioned software applications are not detected by the operating system.

Randy T.

Hi @MGN1,
Thank you for your patience while I reviewed your system specifications.
I’ve confirmed that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition (Model: 21NS0019GE) is designed to support Windows® 11 Pro, German. Since the issue began after installing Ubuntu, this may indicate a compatibility issue.
To determine whether Ubuntu is officially supported on your device, I recommend reaching out directly to Lenovo Technical Support, as they are best positioned to assist with this matter.
Regarding the screen recording it was requested for clarity, but please note that it is not required.
As Lenovo’s support team will be able to provide more targeted assistance, I will now be closing this inquiry. Please note that it will no longer be monitored. However, you may submit a new ticket if you need further assistance in the future.
Regards,
Randy T.
