Performance Issue with CATIA when Enabling VBO (Vertex Buffer Objects) on Intel B580 Graphics Driver

Hello everyone,

I am encountering a serious issue with the Intel B580 graphics driver when using CATIA software. Specifically, when enabling VBO (Vertex Buffer Objects) in CATIA, the 3D graphics performance drops drastically, making the software completely unusable.

The performance degradation is so severe that I am unable to perform any productive work in CATIA, especially when handling complex 3D models. Additionally, I noticed that the GPU COPY usage in Task Manager is extremely high.

Here are the relevant details:

  • Software: CATIA V5 R27
  • Graphics Driver: Intel B580 (Driver version gfx_win_101.6559)
  • Operating System: Windows 11 23H2
  • Issue Description: Enabling VBO causes a significant performance drop in CATIA, especially when interacting with the 3D view, where the lag becomes noticeable. Moreover, the GPU COPY usage is very high in Task Manager.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create a new environment variable CAT_VBO_ALLOWED=1.
  2. Restart the system and launch CATIA.
  3. Open a complex 3D model.
  4. Observe severe lag when manipulating the 3D view.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a solution? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hello zedeeee,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

I really appreciate all the information that you shared and I would like to extend my apologies. For me to address this properly, please share the information below.

1. Was this working fine before or is this issue present from the start of using the GPU?

2. Is the issue isolated to CATIA? Have you tried using other application of the same kind?

3. Please generate SSU report.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Hi Jed,

I have a same problem.
It is too laggy because of drivers with B580, and even Catia doesn’t support rtx4060 neither, it works much better then our Intel.

Can you help us to run this problem ticket internally in intel and solve problem for Catia please?

Best regards,
Kris

Hi Jed,

Thank you for your patience. I have generated the SSU report as requested and attached it for your reference.

To answer your questions:

  1. Is the issue isolated to CATIA? Have you tried using other applications of the same kind?
The issue seems to be isolated to CATIA. I have tried running Rhinoceros on the same Intel B580 GPU, and it worked fine without any performance issues.

  2. Was this working fine before or is this issue present from the start of using the GPU?
The issue has been present from the start of using the Intel B580 GPU with CATIA V5 R27. I didn't notice any problems earlier. However, when I replaced the Intel B580 GPU with a different brand of discrete graphics card, CATIA worked normally without any performance issues.

Please let me know if you need any additional information to assist in resolving this issue.

Best regards,

Hello zedeeee,

Thank you for sharing all this information.

Could you please confirm whether you used DDU before installing the latest driver version 32.0.101.6647? Additionally, may I know the full model of the GPU that was used for swap testing?

I look forward to your response.

Hi Jed,

Thank you for your help.

I did use DDU to uninstall all display drivers and then reinstalled the Intel graphics driver version 32.0.101.6647, but the issue still persists.

Additionally, the second graphics card I used for testing is the GeForce RTX 4060 GAMING X 8G.

It’s worth mentioning that after using DDU to uninstall and reinstall the Intel graphics driver, I noticed that the slight stuttering during 8K video playback is no longer present, indicating some improvement in display performance.

Please let me know if you need any further information or action from my side.

Best regards,
zedeeee
