RAID array recognized in Windows, not in BIOS

I'm trying to create the following RAID array with 4 1TB Samsung hard-drives:

80GB in RAID0 (boot), the remainingspace in a 2734.5GB RAID5 array.

Using the ICH8R boot rom I can't create an array like this, the maximum size is 2TB. In Windows using the Intel Matrix Storage Console I can. The arrays are recognised and usable in Windows without a problem.

However, if I reboot the ICH8R boot rom calles the 4 disks 'Incompatible' and doesn't recognize any of the two arrays. They still work without a problem in Windows.

Is there any way to be able to boot from the 80GB array?

I don't get where you say "They still work without a problem in Windows" "Is there any way to be able to boot from the 80GB array?" isn't the 80GB where you installed Windows? How are you able to boot into Windows?

There is a 2TB limit on the ICH8R.

I suggest you either upgrade the board that has support for 2-256TB data volume or create a 2TB RAID 5 and the rest RAID 0.

I created the 80GB RAID0 array using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager in Windows, installed on a separate drive.

I was hoping there was a way to make it work, I mean, why would the Intel App allow me to make such an array in Windows if the chip can't work with it?

For now I've configured the drives as you suggested.

Are there intel southbridges that support larger arrays? Or would I need a seperate controller?

Its likely the chip can't handle the array upto a point beyond 2TB or rebuild it should it go wrong, creating a array beyond 2TB is one thing whether it works fine is another thing. The Matrix Storage Manager must not be safe guarding you from creating a array beyond 2TB on chips not supporting 2TB.

Yes as said upgrading the board that has support for 2-256TB data volume from ICH9R-10R or PCH (P55).
