Please read this sticky and fill out the form completely. We'll begin investigation once we've received it. Currently we've tried to replicate what you say here but are unable to experience this. Additional information from you hopefully will help. VERY important, please provide the picture or video of the failure. Appreciate it!

Latest release direct X (it's windows 10, not like I have control over it)

To reproduce, open solidworks in an external monitor, start a new part, few minutes later the whole system hangs

Can't get a picture if the system is hung

Solidworks 2016... same thing

No problem if you use the internal monitor

That's the problem, it won't repro for us. Which suggests it may be something with your specific configuration. We'll need that to proceed with investigation. I forgot to include the sticky link.

Could you please take a video of the failure with a webcam, phone or other device and attach it to a response?

Unfortunately the Developer still cannot reproduce this issue. A video or screenshot that shows window positions during or even before hang occurs might be helpful. For example I don't know if SolidWorks window on extended desktop is maximized or not, etc. Please use Advanced editor>Attach to attach the video file to the reply here. Thanks.
