Ultra 7 155h Resident Evil Requiem

I am experiencing very bad performance on the latest Resident Evil Requiem game with this cpu. I am using the MSI Claw A1M handheld, with the Ultra 7 155h processor.

Even at 720p resolution, I am using FSR1 upscaling set to performance (which is ridiculously low input resolution upscaled to 720p) and it can still barely maintain 20-30fps. When going in between rooms, doing fast turns, watching cut-scenes, the game stutters horrendously, dropping to as low as 5fps momentarily. When using FSR3.1.5 set to Balanced, and using 1080p base resolution, I don't see much degradation in performance, maybe around 15-20fps but that is to be expected. I am unable to use XESS or XEFG in the game because the game hides it, but for some reason the game recommends me to use FSR1 on Ultra Quality setting and it seems to run the same as my other tests while looking better. There is clearly something wrong with this CPU, GPU and game combination, because every other game runs perfectly fine (Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village etc.) Using overlay, I can see my RAM gets used up to about 14.5gb out of 15gb even on the lowest settings, CPU usage is no where near 100%, meanwhile GPU usage is around 120%. Vram is around 3gb but this is shared.

I have the latest current drivers on my windows 11 25h2 (version 26200.7922). I also downloaded the latest GPU drivers (clean install and showing 32.0.101.8531 version in the app). I am using an unlocked profile in my MSI Claw settings so I use full performance at PL1 and PL2 limits. Operating system set to High Performance. Potentially unrelated, but I have disabled Endurance Mode, I have disabled CPU boost because it did nothing whilst being on (This is a GPU heavy game). I have forced 3x frame generation mode overall. I have set up vsync to be Application Choice.

I am not sure what else I could do from my end to improve the situation, but I would say due to the heavy stuttering when moving and low fps no matter the resolution I would say the game is fairly unplayable. Weather it needs a driver update, or the game needs an update I don't know. Steam deck can easily handle this game without stutters, which is a lesser performer compared to this msi claw device. The MSI claw 8 ai can also handle this game much better and without stutters. This device had issues in the past with games so its doesn't very much surprise me that this is happening to a new title with this device.

....That stuttering, crazy low FPS, and RAM maxing out? Yeah that’s rough, especially when everything else on your MSI Claw is running fine. I can see why this game feels straight-up unplayable. Here’s what you can do to get this permanently sorted---->

  1. ) Make sure you’re on the latest Intel Arc GPU driver 32.0.101.8531 (you already did this, good move!). Sometimes leftover settings from older drivers can still mess things up, so doing a full clean reinstall using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) can help eliminate that.

  2. ) Since FSR1 at Performance is tanking your FPS, I’d switch to FSR 3.1.5 Balanced or Ultra Quality and set your base resolution to 1080p. Turn off FSR1 completely ::: this one is just not cutting it on your setup.

  3. ) Limit VRAM Sharing... Your shared VRAM hitting 3GB can bottleneck performance. In the MSI Claw settings, see if you can increase dedicated GPU memory allocation or reduce system background usage to free up RAM.

  4. ) ... this one is optional: Frame Generation / VSync Tweaks: Try disabling forced 3x frame generation for Resident Evil Requiem and set VSync to Off or Adaptive. Sometimes forcing frame generation actually adds stutter in GPU-heavy games.

  5. ) OS Optimization... You’re already on High Performance and unlocked PL1/PL2 limits 'good call. Just make sure no unnecessary background apps are eating up RAM.

Following these steps should give you smooth gameplay closer to what the MSI Claw 8 or Steam Deck are hitting, because the stutter and GPU overuse is mainly caused by how this game interacts with shared VRAM and the older FSR1 settings.

Try these tweaks out, and you should see a big boost in stability and FPS your Resident Evil Requiem experience should go from “unplayable” to solid. Hit me back after trying this, and we can tweak further if needed..I got you dude.

i have the same problem with my MSI claw, the game is unplayable even with lowest config and resolution, it is absurd that other handhelds are getting around 60 fps while Claw only reach 5 fp even when an driver update was released for this game

The game had 2 updates since intel are giving us radio silence... and it became somewhat better. I have tried using reframework and optiscaler to inject xess and xefg and that's what made it worse for me. Using FSR1 upscaling and FSR3 frame gen at 900p with all settings on low/lowest seemed to work the best. No longer jittering like crazy when moving (only a little bit of jitter) but the picture quality is still not the best, flashlight jitters and looks weird as hell and its still not a fun experience at all. FSR3 frame gen has a noticeable amount of latency also which adds to the overall not very fun experience. Basically I gave up for now, and playing on desktop instead until things improve.

...but using third-party tools like REFramework and OptiScaler to inject XeSS or Xe Frame Generation may actually be causing additional instability. These tools can sometimes conflict with the game’s rendering pipeline, which may explain the extra jitter and the visual artifacts you noticed with the flashlight. For the most stable experience right now, I suggest sticking with the in-game upscaling options only. Based on testing using AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 frame generation at 900p and lower graphics settings appears to be the most stable setup on your system. If the latency from frame generation becomes too noticeable, you may also to try disabling frame generation and running the game with standard upscaling only, as this can sometimes reduce input delay and improve overall responsiveness. addition, please make sure you are running the latest graphics driver available from Intel, as driver optimizations and compatibility improvements are continuously released for newer titles. Game updates can also change performance behavior over time, so future patches may further improve the experience.

Jesus Christ - If you decide to reply with suggestions that are spat out by chatGPT please refrain from commenting on this topic. I can do the exact same things myself, I wouldn't have made a post about it here to bring attention to the issue.
