Unable to Init Shader Error

I was trying to play Half Life 2 on my laptop with the following configuration

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.73 GHz Processor

4 Gb DDR2 RAM

Intel Express 845GM Chipset

I cannot get the game started, which dies after giving the error "Unable to Init Shader". I need help to get rid of the error and get the game started. The game is listed in the compatible games list for the 845 chipset.
