Which Intel HD Graphics do I have and how to install the correct drivers? (1920*1080 missing

Hi, I upgraded my ASUS laptop from Windows 7 *64bit to Windows 10 Pro *64bit but I'm having an issue with the drivers.

From Control Panel > System, it's clear that I have an Intel i5 processor:

BUT my issue is the onboard Graphics card. From Device Manager and Intel Graphics Properties, it only states Intel HD Graphics.

I don't know if it is Intel HD Graphics 3000, 4000 or whatever? Can someone help me finding my Intel HD Graphics version please?

Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel:

And also, my highest resolution is now 1366*768 but it used to be 1920*1080 FullHD in the past (before Windows 10).

I need to have my FullHD resolution back please. The 1920*1080 is missing from the Intel Graphics Properties Control Panel and from Display > Advanced Display settings:

Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

This is your processor: http://ark.intel.com/products/50179/Intel-Core-i5-460M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_53-GHz Intel® Core™ i5-460M Processor (3M Cache, 2.53 GHz) Specifications

Your processor and graphics are not supported on Windows 10.

You can find the graphics driver (for Windows 7) here:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50179/Intel-Core-i5-460M-Processor-3M-Cache-2-53-GHz https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50179/Intel-Core-i5-460M-Processor-3M-Cache-2-53-GHz-

You can use the Microsoft generic driver.

You have a 1st generation i5 processor.

Your graphics, as named in my first link, are "Intel® HD Graphics".

You can try checking with Microsoft for an update driver for Windows 10, or rollback to Windows 7.

- Oh Okay, thanks for the link - I just downloaded the Windows 7 driver. I will install it soon to see if I can get my 1920*1080 resolution back and I'll let you know if it works again. I thought that in Windows 10, I had to install ONLY a WDDM driver ?

''The difference in resolutions that you see are the differences between you Windows 7 Intel driver, and your Windows 10 Microsoft generic driver''

- Does it mean that it is the Windows 10 generic driver which is already installed actually?

Installing the Windows 7 drive is not likely to work, and may cause you more problems.

As far as your laptop, processor, and graphics, none of them are supported on Windows 10.

Oh, my bad luck. It turns out that the Dell Inspiron N5110 with 2GM RAM and Intel i3-2310M is better than my ASUS N53Jf then.

We have these to laptops at home and I had to decide which one I want to keep and which one I will give my sister.

As I do some programming, virtualization, intense-gaming etc.. I decided to keep the ASUS; and give my sister the Dell.

But day by day, I'm having some issues with the ASUS N53JF:

Windows 10 Pro - 64bit

4GB RAM

Intel i5-460M @ 2.53GHz

Intel HD Graphics (1696 MB)

Nvidia GeForce GT425M 1GB

Full-HD 1920*1080 (in Windows 7)

Blu-Ray

The Dell one is an Inspiron N5110:

Windows 10 Pro - 32bit

2GB RAM

Intel i3-2310M @ 2.10GHz

Intel HD Graphics 3000 (1006 MB) Driver WDDM 1.2

No secondary graphics card

1366*768 resolution

DVD

I thought the ASUS one was better but now I think I was wrong. If you were in my place, which one would you choose?

And can you tell me the processors' generation of the two laptops please? On the Intel link you just sent me, it says 3rd, 4th, 5th...generation.

The Dell has a 2nd gen processor, and the Asus has a 1st gen processor.

However, the Intel HD 3000 graphics are also not supported on Windows 10:

Now, there is a glimmer of good news. The NVidia graphics on your Asus were just updated.

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107014/en-us NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL

Now we get into the discussion of switchable vs discrete/dedicated graphics. In the switchable graphics, for those programs who are known to the NVidia graphics, will switch to the NVidia graphics when needed.

Now for the part which I have not tried. I am far away from my machine where I can verify this. I have been told that if you open the NVidia control panel, and go to manage 3d settings, there might be two options there. Check for global settings, where you can choose to use the NVidia graphics always, the integrated graphics (your intel graphics) always, or select by program.

There is also the possibility that using a driver for the NVidia other than that provided by Asus (which is customized for switchable graphics), that using the driver from NVidia may not work. As I said, I cannot verify or test this (as I an 11K miles from home).

Whatever the case, I do not think you will be any worse off using the Asus as is. Let me know if you see the NVidia options I described above.

Okay, thanks for the recommendation. Sorry for the late reply, I just woke up - it's 9 AM here in Mauritius.

*However, all the drivers installed successfully on the Inspiron N5110, including the chipset;

whereas for the ASUS - Intel recommends an update but the installation always fail:

When checking the Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\Infinst, the 'Version' key is missing (no version, no value) - I guessed that this may be an issue.

For the NVidia card, yes these settings are present. There is an indicator light on the ASUS-laptop which tells me when it changes the graphics card.

- When it is blue, the onboard Intel HD Graphics is in use;

- When it is white, the secondary NVidia GT425M is in use.

From the NVIDIA Control Panel > 3D Settings, it is possible to select the Preferred graphics processor to:

'Auto-Select',

'High-performance NVIDIA processor', or

'Integrated graphics'

* I choose the default one: Auto-Select. And then, there's a second tab where you can customize settings for each program.

When you change the default settings of a program, it is written in bold:

-- Now, there's another issue where ONLY the '3D Settings' option is available in the NVIDIA Control Panel. The normally usual interface is like this:

http://international.download.nvidia.com/webassets/en_US/shared/images/articles/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-five-fast-tweaks/Skyrim-NVCPL-AF-1.png http://international.download.nvidia.com/webassets/en_US/shared/images/articles/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-five-fast-twe

*Mine was like the above image, working just fine in Windows 7. But since I upgraded to Windows 10, the other items are missing and this is a general issue where lots of users are talking about on this post at NVidia forum: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/861723/nvidia-control-panel-items-missing-after-updating-to-windows-10/ https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/861723/nvidia-control-panel-items-missing-after-updating-to-windows-10/

*If I still had the 'Display' item, I would have been able to try changing the resolution.

*By the way, Thank you for replying even if you're not at home and thanks for your response - it means a lot since it's only you who is helping.

*Anyway, you still recommend that I keep the ASUS one instead of the DELL ? Or are they both the 'same'?

*I must say that I'm having a better image quality/settings for my games on the ASUS laptop. Maybe the NVidia card -OR- the greater amount of RAM.

Which laptop to keep? I would personally keep the ASUS since you have NVidia graphics and they are up-to-date. There will come a time when NVidia no longer supports/updates the graphics on the ASUS, but you are ok for now.

Now, using the NVidia graphics "always". I would, Remember that they consume power and generate heat.

As long as you can get the resolutions you need (if you can get to the resolutions), keep the ASUS (in my opinion).
