Hi people,
I've updated to Windows 10 and have been getting intermittent display driver crashes. The display driver appears to hiccup, pause for perhaps a second or so, then recover and continue as if nothing had happened. I might not have noticed if not for the helpful message from Windows 10 letting me know that the driver crashed. Oddly though, that message (appearing for a couple seconds and vanishing) always says it is a Windows 8 driver that has crashed. My computer is upgraded from windows 8.1 but is now Windows 10.
Thinking that a new driver from Intel might solve the problem - i downloaded and installed the latest, dated 8/12/15. The problem however persisted.
My computer has the Intel i7-4700MQ (its a laptop), 16 gigabytes of memory and the HD 4600 Intel graphics adapter. No additional graphics adapters from other companies are onboard.
Here is a copy of the error reported in the event manager:

Dear Intel Representatives,
I am also experiencing exactly same problem on my new Toshiba Satellite Notebook after upgrade to Windows 10.
Processor : Intel i7 4720HQ
RAM : 16 GB
OS : Windows 10 Home Single Language
Graphics : Intel HD Graphics 4600
Driver version : 10.18.15.4256 (distributed by Toshiba on 22 December)
I have uninstalled and re-installed all available drivers provided by Intel and Toshiba, the result is same.
I am frequently receiving a notification that, "Intel HD Graphics 4600 Driver for Windows 8.1(R) crashed and recovered" after a short blink (black screen) on screen.
Unfortunately, your recommendation is not a solution and the problem is still continues.
I request your closer look into the problem which is damaging Intel brand

Dear All,
Further to my previous message on this problem, I have recently found a solution at Microsoft support as following. This new driver has solved problem at my notebook.
1.- Download from this site the beta zip file (win64_154012.zip) :
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25541/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-
(for 32-bit download win32_154012.zip).
2.- Unzip the driver to C:\Windows\Temp folder.
3.- Right click on Start and choose Device Manager, Display adapters, Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
4.- Double click to open it (or right click and choose Properties).
5.- Click on the Driver tab and then on Update Driver.
6.- On the new tab click on Browse my computer for driver software.
7.- On the new tab click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
8.- On the new tab click on Have Disk.
9.- Click on Browse and then choose Windows\Temp\win64_154012\Graphics\igdlh64.inf (igdlh32.inf for 32-bit) and click on Open and then OK.
10..- On the new tab where Intel (R) HD Graphics Family is showing click on Next and let the driver to install.
11.- The new Driver Version is 20.19.15.4326 and is digitally signed.
Furthermore, "Intel Driver Update Utility" was very useful to settle wifi and bluetooth problems after Windows 10 upgrade.
Best regards to all and happy New Year.

Pretty sure that's the exact file that Cesar suggested downloading way above in his response to me... (the second link he offered)...
Also, after downloading, I was redirected to HP's site for drivers. No matter what I download from intel, HP's download assistant refuses to install once finished downloading because HP products require HP tweaks to the drivers... However, I still appreciate the information offered... If anyone can help with the rest of the issues I have posted as having with this new computer, it's very welcome...I'm having major issues with losing my internet even though it leaves me still connected to my home network... Happens in clumps, no clue why..

Hello cjgallagher23,
What you are seeing is the event log of the drivers, when they were not installed and then when they were installed. .
I suggest confirming the laptop drivers with the Original Equipment Manufacturer in order to ensure you have the latest drivers released by them.
Regards,
Caesar B_Intel.

Hey,
I've got the exact same problem with my new HP ENVY 17-N181NB. Tried all the drivers here and the ones from HP and the latest Intel drivers. They all seem to have this problem.
Thanks,
V3n

Hello V3nn3tj3,
You could try version: 15.40.14.4352 (Latest) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25620/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-6th-Gen- Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 7/8.1/10* [15.40 6th Gen]
Please take into consideration Intel provides http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ generic versions of drivers for general purposes. Your http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/oems.html computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to your driver. Intel recommends you contact your computer manufacturer for the latest system specific updates and technical support information.
Regards,
Caesar B_Intel.

Please don't keep sending me the Intel updates as my HP computer cannot use them. I have to use only HP drivers issues for it... After downloading, any attempt to install non-HP validated updates are cut off and scolded that it's not allowed...
Thanks anyway...
If you know of any way to light a fire under HP to get this resolved, please send messages... :=)

Hey all,
I downloaded the driver and "force" installed it. HP wouldn't let me install it so i just installed the .inf by myself. I don't have any problems anymore. What I also did was make the nvidia my main GPU. I keep it pluged in anyway.
So if you force install this driver, and set nvidia as main GPU, the problem wil be resolved.
Still hope there will be a real fix soon...
Thanks,
V3n

Thank's for your reply.
To me, Microsoft it is over.... I send back my computer to be reimbursed.
It is just not normal that major like Microsoft and Intel can not anticipate drivers issues when a new OS like W10 is coming.
It is not normal to read : "well, we have to wait an update"... Definitively not.....
Time for Apple is coming for me now!...

Just to chime in, I have an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 which is doing the same thing. But, mine is doing it with no games installed, this is my work PC, and will randomly do it in Productivity tools like Outlook, or Edge... Not nearly as frustrating as a game as the machine stalls for about 3 seconds then presents a driver crash notification above the tray and I continue on...

I too am having this problem with my fiancee brand new X555LA laptop by ASUS and she has a intel I3 with a Intel 4400 Display Adapter and I updated her chipset driver to the newest version and she says its working with her Farmville 2 but the display adapter keeps recovering from crashes but its not closing the game or crashing the browser so I am getting closer now on windows 10 fix for her computer, I will update the display drivers again and see if this resolves the issue for her.

Hi rocxylemmon,
Please go to device manager a uninstall the current graphics driver. Then, re-start the system and download and run Intel® System Support Utility version 2.0.

Reply to this thread with the results. I will be glad to help you.
Let me know if you already tried with Asus drivers and BIOS updates.
