hello

I have a Dell P2415Q (DP4K60) monitor connected to a Surface Pro (newest version) Intel Core i7 / 512GB SSD / 16GB RAM via display port through a Surface Dock. I'm running Windows 10.

i have Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640

If I run an 'extended' desktop, the external monitor will blink off then on frequently to the point of being unusable. This behavior seems to occur coincident with an action in another program like clicking a link in a browser. However, it will also occur when the cursor is idle.

someonr told me i should update the graphics drivers

Hello Doron10011

Thank you for joining the community.

Allow me to share with you that Intel® does not recommend the use of any kind of adapters. This is because we cannot test all of them, so we cannot guarantee that these are going to work. We can recommend you to update your graphics driver that in some cases will fix the problem.

To update the drivers manually please follow these steps in order to update the graphics driver:
  1. Download the graphics driver ZIP file: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27484/a08/win64_15.65.4.4944.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27484/a08/win64_15.65.4.4944.zip
  2. Unzip the file to a designated location or folder.
  3. Right-click Windows Start icon and open Device Manager.
  4. Click "Yes" when prompted for permission from User Account Control.
  5. Expand the Display adapters section.
  6. Right-click the Intel® graphics entry and select Update Driver Software.
  7. Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
  8. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
  9. Click "Have Disk".
  10. Click "Browse".
  11. Access the designated location or folder, and access a folder called "Graphics".
  12. Select the file called "igdlh64" or "igdlh".
  13. Click Open, then click "OK", and finally click Next. Drivers are now being installed.
  14. Reboot your computer.
  15. And let me know if you have any issues with the installation.

If the generic drivers don't help on the situation you can also try the drivers from Microsoft.

Hello Leonardo C

first of all thank for the help

so DELL try to help me and change for me the monitor to other model it is a 4k monitor U2718Q and i just gor it today

and now i have the same problem like before just i have it a little bit less then it was in the other screen.

but it means that the problem is not with the monitore it is somthing with the Graphics Card

so still i want to try to install the Drivers and mayby it will solve my problem

so i tried to follow your staps but i have a problem with the installation.

when i unzip the zip file and then brows and go to Graphics

i dont find the file called "igdlh64" or "igdlh".

and then i notice i can only choose files with a ".inf" and i saw that this file is there but just without the ".inf"

so i add manually ".inf" to the file and then i could choose him. but still i tried to keep the steps but i gor an error messege that i cant install the Drivers because "This driver is not digitally signed"

and when i click "next" i have a massage "The thirs-party INF does not contain digital signature information"

so what can i do?

you sure this Drivers is ok for my computer new surface pro?

i dont understand why Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 is not working with external 4k monitor

thank you

Doron.

Extension INF is obfuscated in Windows by default.

So you actually renamed the file to igdlh64.inf.inf

Open Explorer options and untick "hide extensions"

Restore the original name of the INF file you have messed up and select it.

The CAT file contains the digital signature which had failed because of the renaming you had done.

no no but then i cant install the Drivers

because in step number 12

when you said "

  1. Select the file called "igdlh64" or "igdlh".

"

i dont find the files so i cant choose that file

and it happen because when i brows i just can choose files with .inf

and the this file is without it

I have the same problem with a Surface Pro 5 i7 !!

I' using a benQ 4k monitor and the external display is

switching off every 10-15 sec mostly when I change tabs or scrolling a lot, or

when a lot is going on the display!

A few things that I checked:

It happens also without the Surface Dock when I hook up the Monitor directly to my Surface

It doesn’t happen with the Surface Pro 5 i5 version of the Surface when using the same Hardware (monitor and cable)

The difference between the i5 an the i7 version is the internal Graphics chip the i5 is using a Intel HD 620 which is working just fine!

I could reduce the black screens significantly by reducing the refresh rate of the external monitor connection to 4k 50 Hz…. When I change it back to 59 Hz it is not usable anymore!

I don’t think the cable is the problem because the i5 Surface is working fine with 4k / 59 Hz!

I also found other users all over the net with the same problem, the problem is definitely with the Iris 640 driver or standard setting!!!

I added a topic on the Microsoft Feedback-Hub, maybe you could add a comment and give the topic more weight.

It's seems to be a old, very well known problem with the Surface Line and the Iris graphics!

Why is there still no driver fix?!
