"graphics Options" shown as ?????????

Hi,

A friend has a problem with their laptop. When you right-click on their desk top, the menu replaces the "Graphic Properties" and "Graphic Options" menu options with strings of question marks e.g. ?????????????? and ??????????????

When you click on what would be the "Graphic Properties" string of question marks, the Intel Graphic Media window is presented and every field on the window is filled with strings of question marks.

When you click on what would be the "Graphic Options" string of question marks, the sub-menu options are again shown as strings of question marks.

Has anyone seen this before? Can it be fixed, or is there a hardware problem with the Graphic Card chipset?

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
