To answer your inquiry regarding the naming differences between Intel® 13th Gen and 14th Gen processors.
You're absolutely right—prior to the 14th Gen, Intel used the Core i5 branding for mid-tier CPUs. With the launch of the Intel Core Ultra series, starting from the 14th Gen Meteor Lake architecture, Intel introduced a new naming convention: Ultra 5, Ultra 7, and Ultra 9.
To clarify:
- Ultra 5 is not a rebranding of older i5 processors.
- It represents a new generation of CPUs built on a different architecture, featuring enhanced AI capabilities, improved power efficiency, and integrated Intel® Arc™ graphics.
- Pre-14th Gen CPUs, including 13th Gen and earlier, do not support or carry the Ultra 5 designation.
So, while both Core i5 and Ultra 5 target similar performance tiers, they belong to distinct product families and are not interchangeable in naming or feature sets.
Let us know if you have other concerns or clarifications.
Best regards,
Earl E.
