The hardware encoding and decoding capabilities of the Intel Arc discrete GPU are generally quite good, but it notably lacks support for AVC/H.264 10-bit. I suspect this isn’t due to a hardware limitation but rather to firmware, driver, or software issues. However, since I’m not an expert, I’d like to ask whether it’s feasible to add AVC/H.264 10-bit codec support (particularly for decoding) to the Intel Arc discrete GPU? Certain camcorders and cameras use this format, so adding this capability would greatly facilitate video editing and playback. My previous posts kept getting marked as spam, so I post it again here. Sorry for bothering.

Hi Stubbly3343,
Thank you for contacting Intel support regarding AVC/H.264 10-bit codec support on Intel Arc discrete GPUs.
I understand your inquiry about the feasibility of adding AVC/H.264 10-bit decoding support, particularly for video editing and playback from camcorders and cameras that use this format. This is indeed a valuable feature request that would benefit content creators and video professionals.
To better assist you and provide accurate information about current codec capabilities and potential solutions, I'll need some additional system information:
Could you please provide an Intel SSU (System Support Utility) report? You can download it from: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005567/processors.html
If you're not comfortable sharing the SSU report, please provide the following details:
- CPU model and specifications
- Specific Intel Arc GPU model (A380, A750, A770, B580, etc.)
- Current graphics driver version
- System model (laptop brand/model or desktop motherboard)
- RAM amount and configuration
Your question involves technical specifications and potential firmware/driver capabilities that require detailed discussion. For faster communication and to provide you with the most accurate and comprehensive information about current codec support limitations and potential future developments, I'd like to schedule a phone call.
Best regards,
Dean R.

Since this is not a bug but a feature request, I decided not to share too many unnecessary details.
CPU model: i5-12400F
GPU model: A750
Driver version: 32.0.101.6989
Motherboard: Asus Prime H610m-e D4
RAM: DDR4-3200 CL16 32(16×2)GB
After Apple and Team Green added AVC/H.264 10-bit support, this feature has regained attention. Given that codec capabilities are an area of importance for Intel, I hope Intel will follow suit. Thank you.
