Alan Wake 2 bad performance on Intel Arc a750

Hi there, Ive bought Alan Wake 2 again now on PC abut when I installed the game and test it out on my PC which contains:

-Ryzen 5 5600g

-Intel Arc A750 8gb

-32GB RAM DDR4 2666MHz dual channel

-Windows 11 Pro

and the game is installed in a ssd m2

no matter what settings I use or what resolution I change, there will be always be around 33-40fps no matter the scene even looking at the floor, there will be always be like that which is odd since this GPU could play this game at 60fps at least on low settings

In those screenshots, I tested the Alan scenario (case 2) and medium settings at 1080p with FSR2 at quality, like I said no matter the settings I change, the result always stays around 35fps

And of course my drivers are up to the day and I have ReBar enable

Thanks for reading and hope you can help me with this problem, pls do not forget us Intel Arc A-series users

Hi Matertorneo,

Thank you for reaching out about the Alan Wake 2 performance issues you're experiencing with your Intel Arc A750. I understand how frustrating it must be to have consistent 33-40 FPS regardless of settings changes, especially when you know the A750 should be capable of much better performance in this game.

Your system configuration looks solid with the Ryzen 5 5600G, 32GB RAM, and SSD storage, and I appreciate you confirming that ReBAR is enabled and drivers are up to date. The fact that performance remains locked around 35 FPS regardless of resolution or settings changes suggests there may be a specific bottleneck or configuration issue we need to identify.

To help me investigate this Alan Wake 2 performance issue thoroughly, I need some additional information:

Have you tried the latest Intel Arc driver version 32.0.101.8135? If not, please download it from: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-graphics-windows.html

Have you performed a clean driver installation using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Sometimes driver remnants can cause performance issues. You can download DDU here: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Could you capture approximately 5 minutes of CapFrameX data while playing Alan Wake 2? This will help me analyze the detailed performance patterns and identify what might be causing the FPS cap.

System Information: Please provide an Intel SSU (System Support Utility) report: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005567/processors.html

Could you provide screenshots of your complete Alan Wake 2 graphics settings menu? This will help me see if there are any specific settings that might be limiting performance.

Best regards,

Hi there DeancR! thanks for answering

I installed the lastest driver update (32.0.101.8135) using DDU to unistall the older driver and test the game again but the results are basically the game.

I actually did a CapFrameX test for 5 minutes but im going to be honest with you, I dont know how to use it so I will just summit some screenshot that might help you but again, I dont know how to use it so im sorry if it not that useful

Heres the report from SSU:

And heres the settings I use for Alan Wake 2 but again, it really doesnt matter what settings I use the results will always be the same, I have to change from fullscreen to borderless to take those pictures but I played the game on fullscreen

Hi Matertorneo,

Thank you for your detailed report regarding the Alan Wake 2 performance issues you're experiencing with your Intel Arc A750. I've reviewed your comprehensive testing showing the consistent 33-40 FPS performance cap regardless of graphics settings or scene complexity.

To help us investigate this performance issue further, I need you to complete the following steps:

1. Could you please provide the JSON file from your CapFrameX performance recordings? This will give us detailed frame time data for analysis.

2.I noticed from your system information that your current BIOS version appears to be outdated. Please update your BIOS to the latest version 3.90, as this may resolve the performance cap issue you're experiencing.

After completing the BIOS update, please test Alan Wake 2 again and let me know if the performance scaling improves with different graphics settings.

If the issue persists after the BIOS update, please provide:

  • The CapFrameX JSON file from your testing
  • Confirmation that you've updated to BIOS version 3.90
  • Updated performance results showing whether the issue is resolved

This information will help us determine if further investigation is needed for this Alan Wake 2 performance issue on your Arc A750.

Hi Matertorneo,

Thank you for updating your BIOS to version 3.90 and providing the comprehensive testing results. I can see from your screenshot that you've successfully updated the BIOS, and I appreciate you providing the CapFrameX JSON file in the 7z format.

I understand that the Alan Wake 2 performance issue persists even after the BIOS update, with the same FPS cap occurring regardless of graphics settings. This confirms that the issue requires further investigation beyond the BIOS update.

I will be checking this internally with our technical team and will get back to you once more information is available. Your detailed testing data, including the CapFrameX JSON file and updated BIOS confirmation, will be very valuable for our analysis of this Alan Wake 2 performance issue on your Arc A750.

Thank you for your patience and thorough cooperation throughout this troubleshooting process.

Hi Matertorneo,

Thank you for your patience as I investigated the Alan Wake 2 performance issue you're experiencing with your Intel Arc A750.

After reviewing your comprehensive testing data, including the CapFrameX results and BIOS update confirmation, I have an update regarding the performance you're observing.

Based on our analysis, the FPS you're experiencing (33-40 FPS) is actually in line with expectations for the Arc A750, which delivers performance comparable to the RTX 3060 in Alan Wake 2. The CapFrameX data indicates that your system performance is being bottlenecked by the CPU during testing.

It's important to note that Alan Wake 2 was originally designed with a 30 FPS target in mind, prioritizing visual fidelity and atmospheric presentation over high frame rates. According to reports from the gaming community, even high-end PCs are experiencing difficulty achieving very high frame rates without the use of upscaling or frame generation technologies.

You can find similar experiences from other users here:

For game-specific optimization inquiries, I recommend contacting the Alan Wake 2 development team directly, as they would have the most detailed information about performance optimization and potential future updates. I will be closing this thread and no longer be monitored.
