Intel ARC A770 Limited Edition 16GB - not showing image on CSM mode and no FAN Speed / Temps avail

I just reported the same issue to MSI Support.

I am using MSI MEG Z590 GODLIKE, latest available BIOS.

As titile says, I have so far seen three issues:

  • GPU is overheating; 90+ degrees on gaming Crysis Remastered and 52/54 degrees on IDLE!!! This happens both on WIndows 10 (latest OS and Driver version) and Linux ( Fedora 38, latest available kernel).
  • GPU is not showing any image when switching to CSM boot mode ( which also disables Resizable BAR support ). Using GPUs like XFX Radeon RX580, ASUS Radeon HD 7790 and Gigabyte Radeon HD 5750 in this scenario outpus the image both in UFEI and CSM mode.
  • MSI's Dynamic Dashboard II is not showing Intel GPU Fan speed and Temperatures after enabling it via MSI Center!

Please update BIOS/Fimrware to ensure compatibility in scenarios above with this Z590 board.

Regarding overheating, the ASPM tweaks in BIOS did not change anything.

Hello HXunbanned

Thank you for posting on the Intel® ARC™ Graphics Communities.

Please note we need to keep one issue per thread so we can troubleshoot and ask for information according to each problem, however, besides the overheating issue that we will take a look at in this thread, in regard to the issue related to no image when CSM is enabled, note that UEFI boot is a requirement for Arc GPUs and Resizable BAR to work, check and read the following article:

Intel® Arc™ A-Series Graphics – Desktop Quick Start Guide

As for the MSI App not detecting the GPU, I believe this is something you should report to MSI directly so they can add support, you can monitor the GPU fans through our own app Intel Arc Control. You can open another thread so we can take a further look and see if there are any other options available for the MSI App to work properly, however, we cannot commit to a specific outcome.

Getting into the overheating issue, I see that you are reaching over 90C when gaming and around 50C when idle, so I would like to check how the GPU is behaving in each different scenario. Please share a short video showing the system while idle and the system while gaming at the same time have the task manager opened so we can check the processes that are running and have the Arc Control Overlay (ALT+O) opened as well so we can check the behavior of the GPU.

In addition, please check and make sure the fans are spinning on your GPU and share a log file from the Intel® System Support Utility so we can check the hardware and driver configuration.

Hello HXunbanned

I wanted to follow up on this issue. Please share with us the videos we requested in our previous post so we can have a better understanding of the GPU behavior and check why it is overheating also make sure your fans are spinning as previously recommended.

Hello HXunbanned

I checked the videos you shared I was not able to perceive any type of overheating problem, it seems that the average is around 30C and the maximum temperature reached is 56C, however, due to the orientation and quality of the videos not all details are visible. It is also important to point out that Fedora is not a compatible Operating System for the Arc GPUs, this will need to be retested in Ubuntu 22.04 or a Windows OS, in case you can retest please share screenshots showing the max temperatures your GPU is reaching.

We are also still missing the reports from the Intel System Support Utility we requested in our first post.

In addition, please continue to post on this thread your future response so we can assist you better. In case you have any type of issue posting in the forum, let us know so we can contact you through email.

Hello HXunbanned

I wanted to check if you had the chance to retest this in a supported Operating System and if the issue still happens. If so, please share with us the information we requested in our previous pots so we can continue to assist you.

Hello HXunbanned

Unfortunately, we did not receive a response from you with the required information to help with this issue, so we will be closing this thread. As mentioned Fedora is not a supported Operating System for our Arc GPUs, so you would need to contact the distribution developer for support for our Arc GPUs, however, if you retest with Windows or Ubuntu 22.04 and a similar issue happens feel free to open a new topic so we can further assist.
