Intel ARC control panel for Linux via Flathub and Snap Store asap

Hi,

I've noticed that Intel officially support Ubuntu only (why not Debian, RHEL and SLES branches too?) despite the actual open source video drivers are working well in any Linux based system (actually MESA Intel 24.1.3-388-1) and now even Blender 4.2 LTS can see my ARC 380 via open API with partial RT support. The utility nvtop (see attachment) still can't read simple discrete GPU values in our systems.

My official request is very simple: after 2 years we still need, so badly, just a control panel that can read: voltages, temps, then create: profiles for applications and profile for general purpose where we can control the system fan curve just like the excellent Core Control for AMD CPU/GPU.

Most importantly, in order to cover any distro, it is preferable the packaged way via Flathub and Snap respective stores with future maintenance for both, that's crucial.

Thank you,

C.

Hi Scott,

maybe isn't clear yet how the open source works. It's not up to them to provide development once the door has already been left open, but to the open source (Linux side) community. So, it's up to US. If you and me can't code, we can be (even in our little) entrepreneurs.

Several months ago I've donated an Intel ARC A380 card to the Ukrainian author of LACT (a control panel utility that initially supported Nvidia and AMD cards). And now, thanks to his talent and my investment, it support Intel Graphics as well. Included the Resize Bar status info as one of my latest feedback to him. It works through the i915 driver and requires a 6.13 Kernel minimum. I've tested on openSUSE Tumbleweed (my daily distro since ages) and now my ARC A580 (but also your card, whatever is) can be monitored under temps, voltages and wattage, no overclock due to i915 limitations, but just perfect for the minimum we intended to reach.

Intel ARC (especially the Alchemist line) rocks! No excuses anymore

Here, some useful links for you:

LACT GitHub project page - https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT/releases/

Flathub official page (flatpak version compatible with ANY distro) - https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.ilya_zlobintsev.LACT

And by the way, I'm known as Citizen839X in the gaming community (Steam, Epic, GOG and so on).

NICE TO MEET YA!

Hello Cham82

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your detailed insight about Intel's support for Linux systems. We appreciate your input and understand your concerns.

After reviewing the current resources, I found that there are no announced plans to create an Arc Control for Linux at this time. However, we will keep you informed if there are any updates or changes regarding this matter.

If you have any questions, kindly let us know.

We look forward for your response!

Thank you,

at least, we know that there isn't any sign of a deadline from Intel.

Let's crossing fingers for the next year. Maybe the Core Control author/maintainer will solve this adding the ARC support.

Cheers,

C.

Hello Cham82,

After discussing your case internally, I would like to inform you that there are no immediate plans to release Arc Control on non-Windows operating systems. For more information, you can refer to our article "Is There a Linux* Version of Intel® Arc™ Control?"

We appreciate the feedback you have provided. I will now close this inquiry. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Seems Intel has left us in the dark, looks like time to abandon this GPU and get one that is supported by Linux

No  NOT SOLVED, just pushed aside with a proclamation that it is up to US to provide our own software to use their product properly.

Respectfully I know fully how open source works. Intel was working on the open source side then abandoned it. No one in the linux community has the drive to do it. Intel abandoned the intel community because it isn't for Windows. I don't need a lecture, I made a statement. Do you know anyone who is willing to buy this PIECE OF CRAP? $200us , Yes, that is how pissed I am, I will take a loss. Intel has failed many people by doing this. I suspect Nvidia wouldn't deal without intel abandoning Linux users for AI fame.  All I want is Fan control and trying to pass through a VM is stupid crap. I have tried LACT, it took a whole 5 minutes to see it lacked fan control. By time they get it right, these cards will be in the dumpster.

Thank you for the reply but it was useless information for me.

Hi again Scott,

you have two very simple option instead of complaining.

1. provide feedback support to the possible new i915 implementations in order to add the fan control and the overclock

2. stick with Microsoft because open source mentality, just isn't for you

By the way, you might find this another info very useful: VGA cards BIOSes with their default settings, if never touched, just lasts longer. Logically, it depends from manufacture to manufacture. In the specific Intel ARC cases, AsRock and Sparkle works just fine with default BIOS settings. If something still doesn't work for you, the chance of a defective unit is always possible and it's not a tragedy (like the coil whine for example). They do warranties for that. You can avoid to buy a specific manufacturer if their policies don't satisfy you and according to your specific country of origin, of course.

If you personally feel that all in all that isn't convenient, nobody here is pointing a gun to your head, you are free to go.

Simple as that, with no necessary drama. Bye, take care of yourself.
