My Arc A750 reaches an average temperature of 90 degrees when gaming. Why is this happening?

Because it's busy. And let's be clear, 90 degrees is NOT considered overheating.

Then what is considered overheating? 90 degrees is the set temp limit, and it reaches 90 degrees after just about 30 minutes of gameplay

Overheating is reaching the Tjmax (Max. Junction Temperature; a.k.a. throttling) temperature for the silicon far too often. If this is like other Intel silicon, the Tjmax temperature is in the vicinity of 100c.

Think of the 90c setpoint as being the upper limit of the range of temperatures that the fan speed control subsystem is trying to control to (stay within).

Hello Farhanx99,

I understand that you'd like to know why your Arc A750 reaches an average temperature of 90 degrees when playing a game.

Since you're observing rise in temperature while gaming, it's important to note that Gaming is a resource-intensive activity that can push your GPU to its limits, especially with modern games that demand high graphical performance. This increased workload can naturally lead to higher temperatures.

To further investigate, kindly share the information below.

1. Did you observe this temperature before or did this happen just recently?

2. Have you experienced any power-related issues, such as random shutdowns or reboots?

3. What is the wattage and brand of your power supply unit (PSU)?

4. Are you using any software to monitor GPU temperatures and performance?

5. Are you seeing the rise in temperature when playing a specific game?

Additionally, to have a better understanding of your system configuration and components please generate System Support Utility (SSU) report. Please follow instructions here and send the report - How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*

I look forward to your response.

One of my friends suggested undervolting the gpu. I set the gpu at 130 watts, since then, the temp has not crossed 75 degrees. I did not notice any performance issues. Does undervolting the gpu cause any problems in the future?

Hello Farhanx99,

Undervolting your GP which means reducing the voltage it uses can be a helpful workaround for managing power and heat. By lowering the voltage, the GPU consumes less power, which in turn generates less heat. This can be especially beneficial if you're trying to improve thermal performance or reduce fan noise.

However, it's important to understand that undervolting may also affect performance. If the voltage is too low, the GPU might not be able to maintain its normal clock speeds, which could lead to slower performance or instability in demanding tasks like gaming or rendering.

That said, if your system is running smoothly and you're not experiencing any crashes, glitches, or performance drops while the GPU is undervolted, it's generally safe to continue using it that way. Many users undervolt their GPUs successfully without any long-term issues.
