Intel Dedicated GPUs

Hello, I am new to the Intel community! I am a PC enthusiast, I am also looking forward to building a new machine using Intel Graphics. I have a question, or maybe a suggestion.

I have noticed that Intel does provide some additional knobs and dials for

Arc GPU users. I find that very nice. I think for enthusiasts, that is a definite perk.

I have also noticed that within the software. There is no negative value for core voltage. I am not sure about frequency.

I have also noticed, and this is not about one company has or does this and this one does not, but an additional change that I think could be helpful for enthusiasts. There are no memory settings. Maybe there is just a difference between GDDR6 and GDDR6X. But the frequency seems to be conservative, which is not a bad thing. I think frequency and voltage adjustments would be nice. The pricing for those cards is excellent. So a message for intel, Nice Work so far!

So I am asking, is that something that could be a consideration for the future?

Or I am also asking, is that a change that could be made? Even though I know that is easier said than done.

Hello CoolFlowProducts,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:

  1. Can you tell us the model of your Graphics controller?
  2. Can you share some screenshots on where would you like us to add your suggestions?
  3. How these request change would help you as an end user?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I cannot tell you the exact model of the GPU I have as I do not have one. However, the questions apply to any ARC GPU that uses Arc Control Software.

If you follow this link>    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/discrete-gpus/arc/software/arc-control.html

You will find that within performance tab, configure settings, there are no negative values for CPU core voltage. There are positive values, which can help with an overclock, but negative values would allow an under-volt. Under volts allow power consumption to be brought down. Sometimes people underclock, when they do that, they do not necessarily need as much voltage. Sometimes, you can even run stock clocks or even overclocks with under-volts. I speculate that has to do with the specific silicon involved with the lottery. The manufacturer has to find a base and max voltage that would work across the board. Some silicon is better, the less efficient silicon requires higher voltages to run at the same frequencies. Negative values allow finer control of the Card the customer has acquired. I do not know if there is, or is not any binning involved in the cards that Intel sells.

I did do some further research and found that the current Arc cards have GDDR6 installed, not GDDR6X. I have been watching you tube videos of Intel vs Nvidia cards. The Intel cards have been doing exceptionally well for a first Gen release from Intel within the standalone market. Drivers have also helped tremendously. What I noticed was the frequency of the memory between The intel Arc series vs the Nvidia cards such as the Nvidia RTX 3060ti. What I did not know was that some of them have GDDR6X, which allows far higher frequencies.

I think the memory frequency settings from factory from Intel for the GDDR6 is already pretty good. However, I still think that it might be beneficial for enthusiasts who wish to fine tune there cards outside of factory settings, not necessarily above what is already standard.

As someone who is interested in the line, who does not have any of the cards offered by Intel, I think some additional settings would just be useful or helpful for those who wish to further increase the performance or fine tune the operating characteristics of the cards. Unfortunately, some of what I ask does have the ability to cause artifact malfunctions or card crashes if an unexperienced user starts adjusting more advanced type of settings without the knowledge or understanding of what they are trying to achieve.

If these settings were unlocked within the bios and additional code were written for the Arc Control software for the GUI for an additional area within the configure button for those reasons, it would probably be a good idea to label the settings as "advanced".

   Thank you for your reply.

Hello CoolFlowProducts,

Thank you for the update.

Just to clarify, are you requesting or proposing that Arc Graphics should have settings to overclock or to tweak the Graphics cards performance in Arc Control?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
