Multiple Texture and Rendering Issues on Intel Integrated GPUs (Minecraft 1.21.5+)

Since the release of Minecraft 1.21.5 in March 2025, players using systems with only Intel integrated graphics have experienced severe rendering errors that persist in version 1.21.6. The main symptoms include:

- Textures failing to load or appearing as solid blocks
- In-game text with missing or “burned-out” pixels
- Incorrect color rendering across blocks and UI elements
- Occasional full-screen freezes during play

These issues make the game effectively unplayable. All affected users share the common factor of relying solely on Intel’s integrated GPU, strongly indicating a compatibility fault between Minecraft’s rendering engine and Intel graphics drivers. Although a report was previously submitted against version 1.21.5, the problem remains unresolved in 1.21.6.

Environment:
- Minecraft Versions: 1.21.5, 1.21.6
- GPU: Intel® Integrated Graphics (various generations)
- OS: Windows 10/11 (untested on other platforms)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install and launch Minecraft 1.21.5 or 1.21.6 on a machine with Intel integrated graphics.
2. Create or load any world with default graphics settings.
3. Observe missing textures, pixelated text, color anomalies, or screen freezes within minutes of play.

Notes:
– No third-party mods or texture packs were active during testing.
– Updating Java, drivers, and game doesn’t resolve the issue.

Please investigate potential shader/driver incompatibilities or rendering API regressions affecting Intel integrated GPUs.

Hi JulioVentura,

Thank you for your thorough and detailed report regarding the texture and rendering issues encountered in Minecraft versions 1.21.5 and 1.21.6 on systems utilizing Intel® integrated graphics. To assist you further, please provide the following details:

  • Which driver version are you currently using for Intel Graphics?
  • Does the issue occur only in full-screen mode, windowed mode, or both? This helps narrow down rendering pipeline problems.
  • Do the rendering issues occur immediately after launching a world, or only after extended play? Knowing the timing helps isolate possible memory/resource leaks or shader triggers.

Additionally, I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Hello VonM_Intel!
I'm not JulioVentura, but I'm also a Minecraft player with this problem.
I seen Julio haven't answered your questions yet, so I'll do it.
(If you will need mine Intel SSU, graphic models etc. I can send them later)

  • "Which driver version are you currently using for Intel Graphics?"

This  Minecraft game bug seems to be on every Intel Graphic drivers, but I'm currently using the newest one - 31.0.101.2135 (March 2025). Before I was using 30.0.100.9864 (September 2021) and few versions before this one. Initially when I tried to download 31.0.101.2135 it uninstalled few times to a versions before 30.0.100.9864, but after a few tries I was able to download the latest driver, but this doesn't seem to affect this Minecraft rendering issue.

  • "Does the issue occur only in full-screen mode, windowed mode, or both? This helps narrow down rendering pipeline problems."

It seems that both have this rendering issue. The glitched text and weird flashes/stripes on the screen definitely occur on both, but I'm not sure about glitched textures and screen freezing.

  • "Do the rendering issues occur immediately after launching a world, or only after extended play? Knowing the timing helps isolate possible memory/resource leaks or shader triggers."

It seems to affect extended play more. This rendering issue seems to not occur at all, or very rarely, right after lunching the world. This problem seems to be especially severe after opening game gui's like chests and furnaces, or custom gui's on multiplayer servers in Minecraft.

I also found a few other issues that Julio didn't mention, but I noticed them while playing:

-Sometimes you may see strange lines/stripes/artifacts on the screen for a short while.

-The bug seems to be even worse on multiplayer servers, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

If you have more questions I will try to answer, and I also hope that Julio will answer your questions to find out if some of the things I wrote work differently for him. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi VonM_Intel!

I'm not JulioVentura, but I'm also a Minecraft player with this issue.

I saw that Julio hasn't answered your questions yet, so I will.

"What driver version are you currently using for your Intel graphics card?"

This Minecraft game bug seems to be in all Intel graphics card drivers, but I'm currently using the latest "26.20.100.7926" Intel Core I3 1005G1 - but that doesn't change it in any way

"Does the issue only occur in fullscreen mode, windowed mode, or both? This helps reduce rendering pipeline issues."

It seems that both have this rendering issue. The glitchy text and weird flashing/striping on the screen definitely occur in both, but I'm not sure about the glitchy textures and screen freezing.

"Do the rendering issues occur immediately after starting a world or right after an extended game? Knowing the timing helps isolate possible memory/resource leaks or shader triggers."

It seems to affect the game the most after 5 minutes at most. This rendering issue happens right after I join the server, after 1 minute it has a 90% chance of happening, but after 2/3 minutes it is 100%, right after starting the world. This issue seems to be especially bad after opening game GUIs like chests and furnaces, or custom GUIs on Minecraft multiplayer servers.

I also encountered a few other issues that Julio didn't mention, but I reported while playing:

- Sometimes you can see lines/stripes/weird architecture on the screen for a short period.

- The bug seems to be even worse on multiplayer servers.

If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them, and I also hope Julio answers your questions to find out if some of the things I wrote work differently for him. Thank you in advance for your help!

...it appears that the rendering and texture issues youre encountering in Minecraft versions 1.21.5 and 1.21.6 may be associated with a compatibility concern between the game’s rendering engine and Intel® integrated graphics drivers particularly with version 31.0.101.2135.

Do this, consider rolling back to an earlier graphics driver version, such as 31.0.101.5084 or older, if supported by your system. Disable shaders or VBOs (Vertex Buffer Objects) within Minecraft’s settings, if those options are available. see for updates to either Minecraft or Intel graphics drivers, as future releases may address this issue...

When I noticed the errors, I had an older version of the drivers. In fact, I updated to the latest one (31.0.101.2135) hoping it would fix the issues, but that wasn't the case. So I don't think that's the solution, especially since other players are experiencing the same problem with different Intel processor versions.

Before trying anything else, I'd like to wait for Von M. response, since I’ve already sent him my system specs.

Thanks for commenting. c:

Hello JulioVentura,

Thank you for getting back to me and for providing the detailed system information. That's exactly the kind of context that helps narrow things down. Based on your description, it looks like the issue tends to occur after a few minutes of gameplay and affects both windowed and full-screen modes, which could indicate a potential memory handling or rendering pipeline problem. Noted as well that you're on the latest driver version (31.0.101.2135) and using an Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics GPU on a Windows 11 (23H2) environment.

At this point, I’ll need to conduct additional research and consult with our internal teams to dig deeper into what might be causing this behavior. I’ll make sure to post an update in this thread as soon as I have more information or next steps to share.

Hello JulioVentura,

You're very welcome. I'm really glad I could support you early on, and please know that I’m fully committed to helping you find a solution. By the way, thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I truly appreciate you taking the time to report it. To help us investigate further and accurately replicate the behavior on our end, could you please provide the following details:

  • Which digital platform are you using to play Minecraft (e.g., Microsoft Store, Steam, Xbox app, etc.)? We need to ensure we download and replicate using the same platform.
  • Is this the Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Standard Edition or the Deluxe Collection?
  • Could you share your in-game settings, such as graphics options, resolution, and any performance-related configurations, so we can replicate them exactly?

These details will help ensure we test under the same conditions you're experiencing.

Hi Von M.

  • Which digital platform are you using to play Minecraft?

I play with game pass so I use Xbox app.

Standard edition, java version.

  • Could you share your in-game settings, such as graphics options, resolution, and any performance-related configurations, so we can replicate them exactly?

I'll share a photo showing the game's video settings—just to clarify, I'm not using any texture packs or mods; it's all vanilla.

Extra information:

- When I noticed the bugs, I had Java 8 installed. In an attempt to check if the issue was related to the version, I installed Java 24—but it didn't fix anything

- I'd like to add that they released a new version (1.21.7). I just tested it, and the interface disappeared after about five minutes. I couldn’t see the inventory or the menu when pressing the Esc key, only the mouse cursor was visible. A minute or two later, the screen froze and I had to close the game.

Hello JulioVentura,

Thank you so much for the detailed information, which really helps narrow things down. I understand that you're playing the Java Edition via the Xbox app (Game Pass) and running into an issue where the in-game interface disappears after a few minutes, followed by a full game freeze. You've also confirmed you're on a vanilla setup (no mods or texture packs), and have already tested with Java 8 and Java 24, both of which didn’t resolve the issue. Appreciate your proactive testing.

I will need to conduct additional research on this issue and post an update in this thread once I have more information.

Hello JulioVentura,

Thank you for your continued patience.

We’ve attempted to replicate the issue using one of our systems equipped with Intel® Xe Graphics and the latest graphics driver version 32.0.101.6913 WHQL Certified. During our testing, we confirmed that this issue does not occur on our end, even when running the latest Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Standard Edition (Version 1.21.7).

Please note, as outlined in our Graphics Driver Support Update for 10th Generation and Older Intel Processor Graphics, graphics-related issues reported on Intel integrated graphics from the 10th generation or older will no longer receive functional updates, unless they are tied to a critical bug or security vulnerability. Given this, we recommend reaching out to the game developer for further assistance, as they may have additional insights or workarounds on their end. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Additionally, we want to be transparent in letting you know that we conducted our testing on an 11th-generation system, as a 10th-generation platform was not available at the time.

In the meantime, I will close this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Best regards,

Von M.
