Once Human: BSOD

Would like to know if anyone else is experiencing issues with Once Human on Steam?

It appears the game launches ok, does its patching fine, then once your on the main menu, when you click enter game the system freezes to a Blue screen of death. It mentions something about a Watchdog violation error.

Bluescreenview is able to pin this to a file called : igdkmdnd64.sys (+39396)

This appears to be Intel graphics related in some way. I have not yet tried rolling back my driver but this is the latest driver (32.0.101.6913) with Intel Arc A770 LE.

Thanks for looking if you can.

Hello Herumacil,

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling reassured about your hardware, and I completely understand your preference to continue using the previous driver version for now, especially given the performance benefits you're seeing with DX12 in OH. That said, upon our investigation, we found out that the issue you're experiencing does not appear to occur with driver version 32.0.101.6972. In line with this, we kindly ask that you test the game using this specific driver version to see if the issue is resolved. You can download it from the following link: Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows*

Please let us know the results after testing. We’ll continue assisting you based on your findings.

Best regards,

Hi Herumacil,

Thank you for posting in our Community.

You're correct in identifying igdkmdnd64.sys as a component of the Intel graphics driver. The Watchdog Violation BSOD typically indicates the system detected a delay in a driver’s response, and in this case, it’s pointing to the graphics driver (which could be a compatibility or resource-related issue with Once Human). To better understand what’s happening and provide the most accurate support, could you please share a few more details?

  • Have you experienced this BSOD in any other games or only in Once Human?
  • Is your system fully updated? (Specifically Windows updates and firmware/BIOS.)
  • Have you tried rolling back to an earlier driver version, such as 31.0.101.4885 or 31.0.101.4669? If not, would you be open to trying that?
  • Are you running any performance overlay, monitoring software, or third-party GPU tuning tools (e.g., MSI Afterburner, Arc Control tuning)?
  • I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue.
  • Do you have Resizable BAR (ReBAR) enabled in your BIOS? Arc GPUs generally perform best with it enabled, but it’s good to confirm.
  • Have you tried performing a clean installation of the driver using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) before reinstalling?

Have a nice day!

Hi VonM,

Thank you for getting back to me;

I have now experienced the same error occurring on multiple games. So this wasn't isolated to Once Human.

My system was indeed fully up to date. Windows 11 and Bios Both.

I do not run any performance overlays, other than steams own fps counter.

ReBAR is enabled.

I have run DDU and reinstalled the latest driver (6913) ... the issue reoccurred immediately.

I reran DDU and installed one driver backwards (6881) ... The issue has now completely vanished, and everything is running normally.

So it definitely appears to be an issue with the latest driver on my particular configuration. As it seems not many others are hitting issues. Ill leave as much detail about my system as i can. Not sure what intel SSU can tell us with this working driver... or does it need the bad driver ?

System info:

PRIME B760M-K D4

Intel Core i5 12400f

32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz (running at 3200Mhz)

Intel Arc A770 LE 16GB

MSI G271CQP Monitor (2560 X 1440 @ 120Hz)

Just to repeat: The system is stable again with the previous driver.

Hello Herumacil,

Thank you for your detailed update and for the proactive steps you've taken in isolating the issue.

It's great to hear that your system is now stable after rolling back to driver version 6881, that insight is incredibly helpful. Based on your observations, it does appear that the latest driver (6913) may be causing instability on your specific configuration, even though it's not a widespread issue.

I will need to conduct additional research on this issue and post an update in this thread once I have more information.

Hello Herumacil,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I truly appreciate you taking the time to report it. To help us investigate further and determine if the problem may be related to the graphics driver version, I kindly ask that you continue with some additional troubleshooting and provide us with the following details:

  • Please obtain the dump files by following the steps outlined in our thread: “Need help? Reporting a bug or issue with Arc GPU? – PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!” Kindly refer to the section titled "Crashing/freezing issues/BSOD.
  • Does the crashing occur during specific scenes in the game(s), or is it random?
  • What are the other game titles that are causing the issue?
  • Have you experienced any crashing or freezing during non-gaming activities, such as browsing the web or watching YouTube or other online videos?
  • Lastly, please share the make and model of your power supply unit (PSU).

Hi Von M,

Apologies for slow reply.

Will attempt to reproduce the issue with the dump files as soon as i can get a bit of time to tinker.

The crashing was not random, occurring at exactly the same moments. In once human; It occurred after clicking "enter game" from the main menu. As soon as loading begins it reaches "Generating Character" and then blue screens. The audio makes that looping buzzing sound also.

The game demo of "The gold river project" which i attempted to try also suffered the same issue during loading.

My other two games that i frequently play;

Monster Hunter Wilds was unaffected. Ran smoothly.

Expedition 33 was also unaffected and ran smoothly.

During normal day to day usage the system would respond and work fine - no issues with video playback, web browsing, or loading speeds. Only the normal random crash while the monitor goes to sleep sometimes. (This has always happened with every driver though)

Finally my power supply unit is a ThermalTake Toughpower PF1 850W unit. (Should be overkill for my setup)

I am hoping this is the correct file - it matches the timeframe of the crash, and matches a bugcheck fail in the Intel SSU software.

Hello Herumacil,

I wanted to let you know that we've successfully replicated the issue of the game crashing in DX12 mode and will be forwarding this information to our development team. In the meantime, we recommend switching the game API to DirectX 11 as a temporary solution.

Furthermore, we are committed to keeping you informed and will provide updates in this thread as soon as we have more details from our investigation.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm happy that the issue could be replicated as it must mean that my hardware is ok. Ill keep an eye on this thread for updates, DX12 has a significant performance advantage in OH, So ill stay on the previous driver that still functions until there are some updates.

Thank you again.
