Weird problem when trying to install Windows with an ARC Card

I have an ASROCK A580 Challenger Graphic's card and Intel needs to fix this and if they can't release a patch they need to fix this problem in upcoming ARC Graphic's cards because this is completely unacceptable.

When I want to reinstall Windows when running my ARC graphic's card I have noticed that the graphic's on the screen's to do your selections do not fit the screen correctly and look terrible as well.

When I installed  Windows 11 23H2 with an ISO I downloaded right from Microsoft I could navigate the screen's correctly.

When I try to install Windows 11 24H2 you can not install Windows unless I go into my bios and switch CSM (Compatibility Support Module) from Disabled to Enabled.

If you look at the first picture you can see that it is impossible to see or get to the accept or decline buttons to go to the next screen as they are not visible no matter what you do,I can get to this screen just fine and see all the choice's or just make my selection then press the enter key,the problem is on this screen pressing the enter will not work because you must be able to press the accept or decline button.

I have found that if I go into my bios and turn the CSM (Compatibility Support Module) from Disabled to Enabled then I can see the whole screen as you can see by this picture where I have turned the Compatibility Support Module from Disabled to Enabled.

The problem with doing this is it is a pain because then I have to wait for my pc to take 5 to 7 minute's and go threw ram training because my pc use's DDR5 ram and it does this everytime you switch the Compatibility Support Module from Disabled to Enabled and then back again.

That is an odd issue indeed, especially because I have installed Windows 11 24H2 using systems with Alchemist and Battlemage GPUs on different displays and did not see this behavior.

At this stage of the Windows installation there are no Intel graphics drivers loaded, instead the installer uses generic Windows drivers to support the display hence why "fixing" this from Intel side is tricky. This leads me to believe it might be something to do with the Display firmware and the GPU firmware.

What is the monitor make and model?

Do you have a different monitor to test this?

Are you using any type of adapter or converter to connect the display to the GPU?

I have 2 monitor's that bot suffer from this problem, with both monitors I can just use CSM to and switch the setting to Enabled and then it works for me the way it.

Also when I go into my bios at anytime when CSM is not Enabled the bios screen image's do not nearly as sharp either.

My older monitor that I don't use anymore is a ViewSonic VX2439M

My new monitor is a ViewSonic VA2459-SMH

It seems to me both ViewSonic displays are a bit older and use HDMI 1.3 standard. Technically HDMI is backwards compatible but this might be where the issue is coming from (perhaps the GPU has to switch to VBIOS legacy mode to reach HDMI 1.3 standard - this is personal guess though).

Any chance to test this on a more modern display? I want to be honest with you, the chances of our driver dev team to pick this bug are unlikely given that the issue does not seem to occur on the vast majority of displays out there.

I'm going to leave this thread open to see if other users are experiencing this behavior.

Ronald M.

The ViewSonic VA2459-SMH is the newest monitor I have.

I'll report this as a compatibility issue.

I do want to reiterate my previous message that this is unlikely to receive any immediate attention from the Intel dev team. All resources are focused on fixing critical issues (crashes, performance improvements, etc.) and chasing compatibility issues on old hardware is likely to take a backseat for now. If any news develop I'll update this thread.

If possible try reporting this to ViewSonic as well just in case a firmware update is available from their side.

Ronald M.

I fully understand and I'm very grateful for your help,I understand why this problem may take awhile to get fixed,I just hope Dev Team doesn't just put it on the backburner and never fix the problem.
