Hi Scarface1,

Thank you for providing the detailed information, screenshots, and SSU report. This is very helpful for our investigation.

I've reviewed your SSU report and noticed some important details about your setup that I'd like to clarify:

eGPU Setup Clarification: Since you mentioned using an eGPU setup with your GMKTec NucBox K8 Plus mini PC, I need to confirm:

  1. Is your Intel Arc B580 connected externally via Thunderbolt/USB-C?
  2. What eGPU enclosure are you using?
  3. How is the eGPU connected to your display - directly from the B580 or through the mini PC?

Additional Questions:

  1. Does the DirectStorage error occur even when XeSS 2 Frame Generation is disabled?
  2. Have you tried running the game with XeSS 1 instead of XeSS 2 to see if the crashes still occur?
  3. Are you experiencing similar DirectStorage issues or crashes in other games?
  4. What power supply wattage does your eGPU enclosure provide?

Current Understanding:

  • Game crashes when trying to change graphics settings with XeSS 2 Frame Generation enabled
  • DirectStorage showing CPU fallback instead of GPU decompression
  • Issue occurs in both menus and gameplay
  • Using latest drivers with DDU clean installation performed

Understanding your exact connection method will help us provide more targeted troubleshooting steps. Please provide these details so we can better assist you with this issue.

Hi Scarface1,

Thank you for providing the Windows Event Log information. I can see that the crash is occurring in the Steam overlay renderer (gameoverlayrenderer64.dll) when trying to use XeSS 2 Frame Generation in Farming Simulator 25 with your Intel Arc B580 eGPU setup.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since you've already performed multiple DDU clean installations and the DirectStorage is falling back to CPU decompression instead of utilizing your GPU's capabilities.

The Event Log shows an access violation (Exception code: 0xc0000005) in the Steam overlay, but to get a more detailed analysis of what's causing the crash, we'll need the actual crash dump file rather than just the Event Log entry.

Please provide the crash dump file following these instructions:

For comprehensive crash analysis and bug reporting, please follow our detailed guidelines here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Need-help-Reporting-a-bug-or-issue-with-Arc-GPU-PLEASE-READ-THIS/m-p/1494429#M5057

This will help us:

  • Analyze the exact cause of the XeSS 2 Frame Generation crashes
  • Understand why DirectStorage is not utilizing GPU decompression
  • Provide targeted solutions for your eGPU configuration

Additional troubleshooting to try while we analyze the dump:

  • Try disabling Steam overlay temporarily to see if crashes still occur
  • Test with Steam in offline mode to isolate overlay-related issues

Your eGPU setup details (OCuLink connection, AOOSTARAG 01 enclosure, 650W PSU) are helpful for our analysis. This appears to be a specific interaction issue between XeSS 2, DirectStorage, and the Steam overlay in your eGPU configuration.

Please provide the crash dump file when possible, and we'll work on getting this resolved for you.

Hi Scarface1,

Thank you for providing the crash dump file! This is exactly what we needed for a detailed analysis of the XeSS 2 Frame Generation crashes you're experiencing with Farming Simulator 25 on your Intel Arc B580 eGPU setup.

I'll be analyzing the crash dump to understand the specific interaction between XeSS 2, DirectStorage, and the Steam overlay in your eGPU configuration. This will help us identify the root cause of both the crashes and the DirectStorage CPU fallback issue.

While I analyze the dump file, please try the latest Intel Arc driver:

Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows Version: 32.0.101.8135* Download Link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-graphics-windows.html

For best results, I recommend performing a clean installation using DDU:

  1. Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller):
  1. Clean Installation Process:
    • Boot into Safe Mode
    • Run DDU to completely remove all Intel graphics drivers
    • Restart normally
    • Install the latest driver version 32.0.101.8135
    • Test Farming Simulator 25 with XeSS 2 Frame Generation

Additional Testing:

  • Try disabling Steam overlay temporarily to isolate overlay-related crashes
  • Test the game in Steam offline mode if overlay disable doesn't help

The latest driver may contain specific fixes for XeSS 2 Frame Generation stability and DirectStorage GPU decompression in eGPU configurations. Combined with the crash dump analysis, this should help us resolve both issues you're experiencing.

Please let me know the results after installing the latest driver, and I'll provide additional recommendations based on the crash dump analysis.

also with XeSS 2 frame generation turned on, i'm still getting 60 fps as i would without it enabled. i should be getting over 100+ fps like i do with FSR 3 x2 enabled

Hi Scarface1,

Excellent detective work! Thank you for confirming that disabling the Steam overlay resolved the XeSS 2 Frame Generation crash issue. This confirms that the problem was specifically related to the interaction between Steam's overlay renderer and XeSS 2 in your eGPU configuration.

You've successfully isolated the crash cause to the Steam overlay, which is valuable information for addressing this compatibility issue.

XeSS 2 Frame Generation Performance Concern: I also note your observation that XeSS 2 Frame Generation is only providing 60 FPS instead of the 100+ FPS performance boost you're getting with FSR 3 x2. This suggests there may be an optimization issue with XeSS 2's frame generation efficiency in your specific eGPU setup.

Next Steps: I'll be checking both of these issues internally:

  1. The Steam overlay compatibility problem with XeSS 2 Frame Generation in eGPU configurations
  2. The XeSS 2 Frame Generation performance optimization concern compared to FSR 3

I'll get back to you with more information and potential solutions once I have additional details available from my investigation.

In the meantime, you can continue using the game with Steam overlay disabled as a workaround for the crash issue.

Thank you for the excellent troubleshooting work and detailed feedback. This information is very helpful for addressing these XeSS 2 compatibility and performance issues.

Hi Scarface1,

Thank you for the excellent troubleshooting work! I'm glad we've identified that disabling the Steam overlay resolves the XeSS 2 Frame Generation crash issue. This confirms the compatibility problem between Steam's overlay renderer and XeSS 2 in your eGPU configuration. Regarding your XeSS 2 Frame Generation performance concern - getting only 60 FPS instead of the expected 100+ FPS boost that you achieve with FSR 3 x2, this definitely needs further investigation to understand why XeSS 2 isn't performing optimally in your setup.

To help me investigate both the Steam overlay compatibility issue and the XeSS 2 performance optimization problem more thoroughly, I need some additional information:

Performance Comparison Data: Could you provide CapFrameX recordings showing the performance difference between:

  • XeSS 2 Frame Generation performance (currently getting 60 FPS)
  • FSR 3 x2 performance (getting 100+ FPS as expected)

A sample video demonstrating how you replicated the XeSS 2 performance issue would be very helpful for analysis.

This data will allow me to conduct a more comprehensive investigation of why XeSS 2 Frame Generation isn't delivering the expected performance boost in your eGPU configuration compared to FSR 3.

In the meantime, you can continue using the game with Steam overlay disabled as a workaround for the crash issue.

Your detailed feedback has been invaluable for identifying these XeSS 2 compatibility and performance issues. Once I have the additional performance data, I'll be able to provide more targeted solutions.

FSR 3 x2 performance didn't even hit 100+ fps. i'm getting higher fps in quality mode. I get higher fps in ultra quality mode x2 in XeSS.
1st capture is FSR 3 x2 performance.
2nd capture is XeSS x2 performance
