Hi QQM,
Thank you for reporting the shadow jagging and wave inconsistency issues you're experiencing in Black Desert. I can see from your screenshot that there are indeed noticeable jagged edges on the shadows and irregular wave patterns.
To help investigate these graphics rendering issues, could you please provide:
- Please download and run Intel System Support Utility from: Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*
- What troubleshooting steps have you already tried to resolve these issues?
- Did Black Desert work properly before, or is this a new installation? If it worked before, when did you first notice these issues?
- What graphics settings are you currently using in Black Desert? (resolution, quality presets, anti-aliasing settings, etc.)
- What Intel graphics driver version are you currently using?
This information will help me analyze the shadow rendering and wave simulation problems you're experiencing.
Best regards,
Dean R.

2.Adjusted the in-game graphics settings and updated the graphics driver settings, but no improvement was observed.
3.The game was installed a long time ago. It previously ran on an NVIDIA 2060s graphics card, but after switching to an Intel Arc 580, the performance difference became very noticeable, with the overall graphics appearing much rougher.

Hi QQM,
Thank you for providing the detailed information about your Black Desert graphics issues with the Intel Arc A580. I can see from your hardware information and the comparison with your previous NVIDIA RTX 2060S that you're experiencing significant visual quality differences, particularly with shadow jagging and lighting inconsistencies at 2560x1440 ultra-HD settings with driver version 8250.
I understand how noticeable and concerning these graphics quality differences must be when switching from your previous graphics card.
To help investigate these rendering issues further, I have a couple of requests:
- Could you please run Intel System Support Utility and provide the report? If you're not comfortable sharing it publicly in this forum, you can send it privately via email if you prefer.Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*
- Have you tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to perform a clean removal and reinstallation of the Intel Arc graphics driver? This can sometimes resolve rendering issues that persist from previous driver installations. How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall a...
The shadow rendering and lighting quality issues you're experiencing at ultra-HD settings may be related to driver optimization or configuration conflicts that a clean installation could resolve.
Please let me know your preference for sharing the SSU report and whether you've tried the DDU procedure.
Best regards,
Dean R.

Hi QQM,
Thank you for providing the Intel System Support Utility report and confirming that you used DDU to remove the NVIDIA drivers when switching graphics cards.
I've reviewed your SSU report and can see you're running Intel Arc A580 with driver version 31.0.101.8250. Based on your description of shadow jagging and wave inconsistencies in Black Desert compared to your previous RTX 2060S experience, I'd like to suggest some additional troubleshooting steps.
First, I recommend using DDU to perform a clean removal of your current Intel graphics drivers and then reinstalling the latest Intel Arc graphics driver from the Intel Download Center. This can resolve rendering issues that persist from previous driver installations or conflicts. After the clean installation, open Intel Graphics Software and navigate to the Games tab to add Black Desert as a game profile. Try enabling Image Sharpening, set Anisotropic Filtering to 16x, and experiment with different Performance/Quality balance settings.
For the game-specific settings, even though you mentioned trying various configurations, please specifically disable "High-End Mode" temporarily and set Anti-Aliasing to FXAA instead of other options. Additionally, try lowering Shadow Quality to "High" instead of "Ultra" to see if the jagging improves, and adjust the Effect Quality settings as well.
Finally, ensure that Black Desert is set to use the Intel Arc A580 as the preferred GPU in Windows Graphics Settings, as this can sometimes resolve rendering inconsistencies.
Could you please try these steps and let me know if you see any improvement in the shadow rendering and wave consistency?
Best regards,
Dean R.

Still no improvement. The shadows on land don't look obvious, but noticeable jagged edges only become very apparent when at sea.

Hi QQM,
Thank you for the additional screenshot and for confirming that the shadow jagging issues persist, particularly when at sea in Black Desert. I can see from your latest image that the jagged edges are indeed very noticeable in the water/sea environments, even though they're less apparent on land.
I appreciate your patience in trying the troubleshooting steps we discussed, including the DDU clean installation of Intel graphics drivers and the various game-specific settings adjustments. Since these standard troubleshooting methods haven't resolved the shadow rendering and wave consistency issues, you're experiencing with your Intel Arc A580, I need to check this further internally for additional analysis.
The performance and visual quality differences you're experiencing compared to your previous RTX 2060S, particularly the shadow jagging at sea, require further investigation beyond our standard troubleshooting procedures.
I'll get back to you once I have more information from my review. Thank you for your continued patience and for providing such detailed documentation of this issue.
Best regards,
Dean R.

Hi QQM,
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the issues you're experiencing. To provide you with the most effective support, we'd like to request that you create separate threads for each issue you've reported. This will allow us to focus on each concern individually and provide more targeted assistance.
For this current thread, could you please clarify which of the following issues you'd like us to prioritize:
- Blocky shadow generation
- Inconsistent waves
If you choose to focus on the blocky shadow generation issue:
We've conducted extensive testing on this matter with the following results:
- Intel Arc B580 with driver 32.0.101.8123: Blocky shadows are generated by the controllable character and NPCs - Test Video
- Intel Arc B580 with driver 32.0.101.8331: Blocky shadows are generated by the controllable character and NPCs - Test Video
- NVIDIA RTX 4060 (competitor GPU): Blocky shadows are also generated by the controllable character and NPCs - Test Video
Based on our testing, the blocky shadow issue appears across multiple GPU configurations, including both our older and newest graphics cards, as well as competitor hardware. This suggests the issue may be related to the game's implementation rather than our graphics drivers. We recommend contacting the game developer directly for further assistance with this concern.
If you choose to focus on the inconsistent waves issue:
We were unable to replicate the wave generation issue based on our testing:
- Intel Arc B580 with driver 32.0.101.8123: Test Video
- Intel Arc B580 with driver 32.0.101.8331: Test Video
- NVIDIA RTX 4060 (competitor GPU): Test Video
Since we cannot reproduce this issue, we'd appreciate additional information to help us investigate further:
- Could you please share a video demonstrating the inconsistent wave behavior you're experiencing, along with a description of how the waves are behaving abnormally?
- Is this issue isolated to a specific area or body of water in the game, or have you encountered it in multiple locations?
Please let us know which issue you'd like to address in this thread, and we'll proceed accordingly.
Best regards,
Randy T.

The issue of wave-like patterns occurs at night when moonlight reflects on the sea surface, creating a rippled stripe effect.

I’ve noticed similar behavior in Black Desert, especially with shadow aliasing and water effects depending on settings and driver versions. In some cases, changing shadow quality levels or disabling certain post-processing options helps reduce the jagged edges, but it doesn’t fully eliminate the inconsistency.
It would be useful to know whether this is tied to a specific driver build or rendering setting, as the issue seems more noticeable in certain scenes than others.
